Topic Dog Boards / Health / Age GR puppy stops growing taller

Hi, I was wondering if any Golden Retriever parents could remember when their puppies stopped growing taller. I have a 9 month old dog that needs TPLO surgery (ligament repair for his knee). I want to make sure he's stopped growing first so he doesn't end up with legs of uneven height - not a good thing for a breed prone to hip problems. The vet thought it would probably be OK to do it now but I think they get taller until they're about 12 months. X-rays will tell us if the growth plates have closed but that means a general and he's already been under twice since November. If anyone can share their own experiences I would appreciate it as we have to make a decision.

Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori
If you're talking about growing TALLER, most Goldens will have finished that by about 10 months or so. However they have not stopped growing in general and their bones developing until at least 18 months of age. Most do not look properly adult until 2. Not sure if this will make any difference.
