Right start at the begining
In December I collapsed on the kitchen floor  apparently my heart stopped.  I was admitted into hospital for  3 weeks . In tat time my father looked after my dogs as I had a defibulator fitted  , apparently my heart stopped 3 times  :(
But since being  home  my great dane seems to be  very weird  but  very sweet with it to . Every room I go to he follows me  if  i go to the kitchen  and cook a meal he will sit beside me till its done , and if I go for a bath  hell sit outside  waiting for me  , If i go to bed he will  lie beside me  watching me sleep ,  its like hes protecting me .

I know this isnt a huge problem  just wondering is it  because he  knew something hapened :S  If that makes sense

He missed you. :) I'm sure he'd be the same if you'd been on holiday. :)

Glad you're doing well now. :)

What an awful time for you, i hope you're feeling a little better now. Thats the adorable thing about danes they are very adept at knowing our feelings or if somethings wrong. My girl is just the best for sensing problems and will stay by my side, i've been fighting an illness for many years and she's been like an angel during bad times.
The male dane i have couldn't care less though aslong as he's fed and walked :D :D

Take it easy, Sarahx

Sorry you have not been well Tracey :(.  He is probably protecting you and like JG said he will have missed you.  My dog follows me everywhere it used to drive me nuts at first but now it is strange if he is not there.

Pleased that your health has stabilised :)

IMHO, dogs sense when we're emotionally or physically upset/ out of balance.

My dogs are very tuned in to me, particularly when I have a relapse with my ongoing health problems and behave much like your dog, ie, following me everywhere and watching me closely, even when I don't want to be watched :D

If you have a good relationship with a dog, as you clearly do, then they display what I can only describe as a sixth sense.

It could be he knows.  Whener I'm in the house alone after I'm in bed, or if just my brothers here one of the dogs will insist on sleeping in my room, no other time does he sleep in anyones room, normally outside my door but if I'm on my own it has to be in my room.  Weird, I just but it down to protecting me while I'm alone.

Before my brother died my parents had a litter of Rough Collies and they kept one for Ian.  At 12 weeks of age after it's vaccinations that dog walked by my brothers side off lead and never moved away from him, it was a wonderful sight and so amazing that such a young pup seemed to realise that there was something wrong.

I do believe that dogs know when somethings not quite right.

When my mum was ill in hospital with cancer and away from home for a month I remember Lydia my eldest Spanish decided one day when my dad and I were out to wreck everything that belonged to my mum, it was really strange, there were things that belonged to my dad and I lying around and she never touched them.

Glad to hear that you are much better.

Sorry you've been so poorly but glad you are on the mend. Dogs do seem to sense when you aren't up to par and can be amazingly thoughtful. When I got my pup I was still recovering from the latest attempt to completely wreck my left ankle (double displaced fracture which means it is now held together with metal plates!!) and while he was an absolute little so and so with the OH's feet he never went near my bad one. Even now he won't even lick the bathwater off it! ;)

When I was a kid I had penumococcal meningitis. I collapsed into a coma on the bathroom floor and mum only found me after investigating my GSDs howling. Mum found me with the dog licking my face and pushing me with her nose. Strange thing is the dog had been following me closley for 2 weeks prior to my collapse and got really distressed when I wasnt around.

When I got out of hospital I couldnt walk well and the dog followed me everywhere, she even helped me re-learn to walk

She never stopped following me around, not untill she passed away. But the funny thing is she taught our GSD pup that we got 2 years after my illness to follow me as well. And she never stopped either.

I think its because they can sence that something was / is wrong and their protective instincts are triggerd.
