Hi. Due to overlicking of front paw (due to an injury) my border collie's foot is now saliva stained. I have been given some tips to give a try but just wandered if anyone could recommend any products or home remedies that have worked for them. Greatly appreciated as the judge at Manchester thought he had been digging in the sandpit ;) and I would like to get him right for his first Crufts. Thanks

I wonder whether the Sodium Bicarb solution that is good for tear staining might work. I use a heaped teaspoon of bicarb in 100ml of water. It would take quite a few applications to make a difference. Or maybe Eye Envy, available from Hub on the net.

I have this on one paw, have never found anything to remove it, but when she does it I spray the paw with Bitter Apple especially before going to bed. This stops the licking and sucking . It eventually comes back white.
Thanks Nursey and Sandrah. Sandrah. How long roughly does it take to get white if the dog leaves it alone?

I think it eventually grows out as it is with my beardie who has been licking a sore foot and its turned pink!
A tip I was given at Manchester is talcum powder and cornflour mixed brushed on with a mans shaving brush!

I do similar but do wash off the slobbed on paw with water and a bit of white vinegar. I find if I can wash the paw with a clean flannel with the vinegar and water then it is lkess likely to stain. So I do this every time I catch her sucking. Mien does it on and off (first started when she had to wear an Elizabethan collar with and eye injury) and now tends to do it around seasons and on long car jurneys.

If she leaves it alone you will be ok for Crufts. I usually find it goes to an acceptable colour in a couple of weeks. A bit of white powder of some sort usually covers up anything that is left. Of course you can't do this for in the ring

:D
Thanks Guys.
He's (please don't give him a complex Sandrah, he's already had a critique as being a pretty bitch, which he's getting councelling for ;) :D )
I will give it all a try. He's healed so well from his accident but is a bit of a licker on that paw now. I will try what you have recommended. He will smell nice. I got some cover up from plush puppy at manchester and it does work well, but of course not in the ring ;) :D

Whoops, sorry about that. How did you do at Manchester?
Well you know how these Caristan and Sheltysham dogs are. Big showoffs. So he went in the ring, did the big I am, licked the judge to death, who then informed me that he was carrying his tail to high and to run again with it down (if I could get it down, does he not think I would have done so, maybe ask Penny next time, she's good with tails). So nothing that day what with the stained legs as well. I wasn't expecting too much as he had been out for two months so he was a firework waiting to be lit. So the only way is up from there I think
Doing Midland Border in a couple of weeks, so second chance there before he goes up to yearling and beyond ; )
When are you going to get number three then? Are you going to play it cool and keep us all guessing? I'll be watching and waiting :D

I am going to Midland too, weather permitting of course.
You will be easy to spot, I will look for four stained legs in Jnr Dog :D :D

Oh I'm going to Midland BC as well will be waiting to give a big cheer if Buffy manages it :D
And I had been told what a lovely person you were. I shall be reporting back to the people that be ;)
We can compare "whose got the gayest tail ;) :D
>We can compare "whose got the gayest tail
You have no chance of winning that :D
You may have done well in the ring with Buffy so far, but I'm afraid you'll have to concede to my boys tail. He can touch his nose on a good day with it :D
Anyway can't talk. Have to go and emulsion four white paws ;)

I use a product called White Lightening from HUB Int. It works- shampoo first with ordinary shampoo, rinse then apply the WL shampoo and leave for between 3-5 mins then rinse off. Takes a few applications but my OES paws have come back white. Good luck
Thanks Nelson.
Hub do some great stuff. I can never remember some of the names of things people recommend.
Will see if I can get it online.
