Hi,
Jasper our 14-mth lab was diagnosed with a hair follicle infection last Thursday. The vet has shaved the area and prescribed anti-bioctics and steroid tablets (I don't have the name as I'm at work) she informed us that the tablets would make him very thirsty (which they have) this has obviously led to an increase in peeing.
This is not a problem throughout the day. As we're managing to ensure that he's let out at least every hour, however it is a problem at night. He's not managing to hold himself, which I wouldn't expect him to. So we're getting up at 6am each morning to a puddle.( we go to bed at 11pm, let him out at 2am then up at 6am)
I was thinking of using puppy pads just until he's completed the course and the side effects have stopped. Has anyone tried them, if so what are you thoughts? Or do you suggest I leave them alone, I don't want to backtrack as he's been housetrained for months. Newspaper?? I'm a little concerned about the floors; it's ceramic tiled and know that urine will eventually rot the cement.
Would appreciate your comments?
Kind regards
Sarah

Newspaper is cheaper than puppy pads and if you put a drop of urine on it, just as effective. Also I doubt that puppy pads would be big enough for a 14 month lab. I don't think you'd be back-tracking at all by using paper as a temporary measure.
