carry on eating when a bitch is in season or will still starve themselves.  I cant remember before we used Tom if he used to go on hunger strike.

Hi Karen,

My first male wasn't used at stud and was worse around seasons than my other male who was used several times   Personally I think it's because as a "novice" (couldn't bring myself to use the "V" word :P ) he didn't know the timing as intimately as a pro ;)

I find that young dogs of mine do it, but after a few seasons they learn and will then eat. :)

when young go on hunger strike for week or so, once older go on hunger strike only at prime time days.

Thanks for those replies.

I must say younger boy does get worked up from day one in fact the day before we saw any blood he was having a breakdown but he has continued eating.  Tom on the other hand is just starting to look pathetic and not eat as she is on day 9.  Tom is a little strange for a boy as he never really does anything drastic just lumbers around looking like the world is going to end doesnt howl or whine just looks sad.

My young boy still eats but does lose weight!  Bless him, not sure that he'll ever be used :d

They lose weight whether they eat or not. My boy has just been through it, :( and if anyone realised what he is like under his thick coat, they would put the RSPCA on to me! He doesnt carry much weight at the best of times

I know the feeling Fillis.  I just manage to get his weight back on him and he looks great then the cycle begins again

I agree fillis.  We have often said when Thomas looks at his worse we would hate to live in a built up area as we are sure people would report us to the RSPCA.   He looks terrible and no matter how much food we feed him before they come on he never piles on the weight.  Shame as he is a really well made dog but we can never show him because as soon as the girls come in season he is back to looking like a advert for cruelty.

I know what you mean Sandra I am 100% convinced he is not a real one.  Perhaps his mum had a quickie without me knowing. :)  His Nephew on the other hand although interested in the opposite sex is still a foodie.
