Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Being sick after every meal?
- By Crazydoglady [gb] Date 19.01.06 20:09 UTC
Started feeding my westie burns dry dog food (soaked) about 3 months ago, previously she was having Pedigree complete dry food (not soaked).
About 4 days ago she started being sick about 10mins after every meal. Went 2 vet who suggested feeding her on plain foods like rice, white fish and scrabled egg, to rest her tummy for a few days. Have done that, and she seemed fine again. Put her back on burns and she was fine for a day, but brought up her breakfast this morning again!
Could it be the burns food doesnt suit her? Because she was fine on it for a few months.
Any ideas what it could be?
Thanx

Sounds very strange.  Does she re-eat the sick (sorry) afterwards?

If I were you, I'd do a longer trial of the fish and rice - for a week or two.  If all is well on that, then try the Burns again.  If the puking happens again, try another "Flavour" of Burns, or even try James Wellbeloved (similar food): www.wellbeloved.co.uk   If you try JWB, don't try the same flavour as the Burns which was causing the reaction (ie if it's the chicken Burns, don't try the turkey JWB).  It could be that she can't tolerate one of the ingredients.  If the problem continues when you try another food, it might be worth asking your vet to do a York blood test, which will give you a read-out of all the ingredients she can't tolerate or is allergic to.

Yeah she would eat the sick if I left it down

Thanx for your reply, will keep her on the fish and rice for a bit. Its funny because she kept the burns down for the first few months, weird.
Vet told me to keep her updated so will ask her about the test when I call her, if things dont improve!

Thanx again

Hol dogs often build up intolerances to ingredients if kept on the same food for a long period of time, which is why i always rotate my dogs foods and mix in fresh stuff everyday. However it usually takes longer than 3mths for this to happen, your dog may have a true allergy to something in the food.Instead of keeping her on the bland diet for ages i would switch to a different meat source food and see if the same thing happens,i would try and find the offending ingredient asap :) It might not be the burns food per say,but the chicken, duck or whichever meat source is in the version you're feeding.

Gave her egg n rice today and she kept it down. Will keep it up for a few more days then try a different flavour, because I think I bought a different flavour this time, so it might be the chicken flavour doesnt agree with her

how many feeds is she having a day- maybe you were trying to feed too much kibble at once? when flo eats too much- she throws up immediately?..

She gets two small meals a day, because she piled on the weight after she was spayed! Before she was spayed she would take or leave food, now she would eat all day if I let her!
Might split it into 3 meals anyway, c if it helps!
