I had a very unofrtunate accident in the kitchen last week which resulted in my spilling some water from a hot pan over myself and my 3 months old GR puppy who appeared from nowhere. Felt absolutely terrible and am only just coming to terms with it.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, did all recommended at the time, buckets of water, showered him with cold water. Took him to the vet who shaved the area (the burn was about 2-3 inches) and gave me antibiotic tablets and Fucidin steroid cream. It has started to heal and the hair is growing back over the top, however there is a ring around the edge. When I attended puppy training class, an aromatherapist there advised me to put on oil of lavender to stop scarring and I could get it from boots. However when I looked at it it said not to go neat on skin and I didnt trust myself that it ws the right thing to do.
But she has not got me a bit concerned - I presumed as a Gr has quite a bit of hair that this would be covered when it grows back. Also has anyone had experience of how long roughly it takes to grow back. I feel so awful having this constant reminder of what happened every time I look at him.
Any advice much appreciated.

Healing in such an individual thing, in humans anyway, that it is hard to say what will happen. As long as you are keeping infection at bay there is little more you can do although some research suggests vitamin E is helpfull. Bodyshop sell an oil that has the highest concentration that I know of.
PS I
know he will forgive you ;)

Can't help with the burn but the hair growing back does take a little time. Our GR had an accident a couple of months ago and had some stitches in her back leg the vet shaved a smallish patch. 2 months later you can still see the patch just but it's nearly gone so you probably have a little while to wait.

Lavender oil is fabulous for burns ;) and other injuries - cuts and grazes etc.
If you mix it with SUNFLOWER OIL - the type used for cooking/salads you will be adding vitamin E as well ;) 5 drops to 10ml bottle of sunflower oil should be safe enough, just dab on/around the burn and it should heal well.
Holland and Barrett sell good Lavender oil ;) and you can buy little brown mixer bottles/eye dropper bottles (5ml, 10ml, 20ml) in the chemists.

I had this happen to a cat of mine years ago, a Persian. I was about to drain a saucepan with pasta in and she jumped up onto the sink at the same time and hit it with her head. UNFORTUNATELY this is now 12 or 13 years ago and the hair still hasn't grown back.........it's a bald circle. However the fur does cover it so you don't see it. The patch of skin feels rough to the touch still.
Not sure if my cat was worse than your dog though? She got water on one ear as well and part of the ear actually fell off after a week or so. (There wasn't a lot of fur on it to protect it.)
One thing I've used on my dogs which encourages hair growth is coconut oil.
A realy good thing i use on my horse (i'm guessing it will be the same as dogs!) is cournucrescene (SP) its thick like tar but if you rub that on it encourges hair growth its main use is for hooves but also really good at growing fur back the same colour as horses tend to get white hairs on a scar! hope this helps! thionk its bout £3 for a small tub!
Thanks for all your help - I will get back to the chemist in the morning!

I've heard good things about Aloe Vera gel, but I've not used it myself.

My dad is a fire fighter and always has burns on himself. He discovered a fantastic burn remedy.
Vitamin E is brilliant for reducing scar tissue. A vitamin E oil massage every day will really help to cut down scarring. Ive had serious burns on my legs because I was clumsy when cooking and spilt hot oil on myself and vitamin e massages broke down all the scar tissue. Now there is only a slightly paler section on my arm where the burn was. And it was a 2nd degree burn.
Just buy the vitamin e capsules, the clear ones, pop one open on the burn and massage away. In Australia they actually use the capsules on some burns paitents, so it really shows how well it works.
