Hi, we mated our boxer dog on 22 december 05 and for the last two weeks or so she has had a white discharge which I have read to be quite normal except now she has gone off her food and is very quite and sleepy. I have just presumed that she may be pregnant up till now but I am now thinking maybe she is unwell. If this continues I will take her to the vets sooner than planned as she is due to go in two weeks for a check up. Thank you for any thoughts on this matter

Hi that's what happens to my girls, just a normal part of pregnancy for my dogs, but if this is your first litter and don't yet know what's normal for your girl and are concerned you could take her to the vet so you will feel better,as long as thier is no smell to the discharge I wouldn't be to concerned, you could also take her temp just to make sure she dosnt have a fever,as that may be an indication of an infection.
Good luck

I would definately take her to the vets asap, although as already said it could be normal, it could also be pyometra, a very serious infection. For your bitches sake and your own peace of mind i would take her along for a check up.

Hope everything is ok.

Aproximately three weeks after the mating, the foetuses (sp) will attach themselves to the walls of the two horns. During this period, usually lastnig a week or so, the bitch might feel a bit nauseus and go off her food. This is quite normal, and a good sign if waiting for signs of the bitch beeing in whelp.
This said, if you suspect your dog is ill in any way, apart from sleeping more than usual and not eating, a visit to the vet is adviceable. Signs to look for is discharge that smells or is coloured, increased thirst and a raise in temperature.
Good luck, I think you will be hearing the sound of little paws in the not so distant future, by the sound of it ;-)  :-p .
Best of luck,
Karen

Thank you all for your replies I do feel much happier now. The discharge is definately not foul smelling so is that perfectly normal to have if they are pregnant. I have read so much about it now and have found that too much information just leads to confusion as there are many different ideas out there. She is definately off her food, she does eat the best bits but leaves the rest as before she would eat the best bits then eat the rest throughout the day. She has not been drinking a whole lot either  which also worries me. Hopefully it is just her pregnancy and will come to an end soon so she can bloom like a mother should. She will make such a great mum and I can't wait to be a grandma. Fingers crossed. Thanks again for your thoughts.
