Topic Dog Boards / Health / Flattie swallows lolly stick
- By Sam-Jo [gb] Date 18.01.06 19:41 UTC
My daughter didn't want the last bit of her lolly, so decided she would give it to our Flatcoated retriever to lick.  She had other ideas and swallowed it whole (it was the shorter, fat Magnum style stick).  Thankfully my daughter, told me.  I rang the vets and they said to watch for it passing through her and watch for any change in behaviour.
Has anyone had anything similar happen?  Or know how long it could take to pass?
I've only had human experiences! My daughter swallowed a 5p and that took 4 days and my nephew swallowed a wedding ring, that took a week!
Any advice would be welcome, I'm just praying nothing happens on the way through.
Thanks

Hi

If the vet says its ok then I would just keep an eye out. Mine swallowed a long skewer like the kind you get satay chicken on. They are very sharp but on the plus side they are very soft wood so they do break down. That came through with no problems so dont worry too much. He also swallowed a pair of latex gloves when he was about 6 months. Swallowed them whole!! One came out shredded and the other came out whole.

Just keep an eye out for sickness or if she seems down. Beware though, you might have to have a rummage through her poo:)

It took about 5 days for Sox. It would be worse if it was a stone or something very solid as they often cause blockages.

Good Luck
