Topic Dog Boards / General / Makes me SO angry..

Last July I tried my best to put someone off buying a border collie puppy as a birthday present for their young son.  The family already had 2 older dogs which weren't very well cared for, there was no-one home during the day and the mother suffers from a serious debilitating illness.  But they went ahead and bought a puppy from a local farm.  The younger child was very rough with the pup and the parents rarely supervised them when they 'played' together.
As a consequence the pup started growling at the child and, six months on, this has started to become a problem.  So the family are now looking for another home for the poor dog.

It makes me so angry that people just won't listen to advice and it's the innocent animal who suffers.

Sorry, just had to have a rant amongst those who understand :)

Sad, isn't it?  I know people like that.  Just married, they got a mixed breed from the pound.  He was a super hyper dog who looked amazingly like a flat coated retriever.  I never saw either of them take him for a walk, but I returned him to his home with the admonition that he was getting awfully close to a busy road when he took himself for walks.  Oh, they didn't know.  He mysteriously disappeared sometime around the arrival of child number two.

After child number three an Auzzie/ESS cross showed up.  Another high energy dog and now they have three kids and they couldn't find the time for the first dog when they had no kids.  I returned the new dog and all three little kids home after finding all four getting near the busy road again.  The kids had been throwing sticks and hitting their own dog (their idea of catching it) and I told the mother about that - no hint of concern on her part at all.  Now I hear that dog is gone (to another family yet!!) because it bit one of the kids.  Duh.

Now they are on dog number three.  Haven't seen it yet.  Wonder how long it will last.

On my short street of ten houses there are seven besides the above with one or multiple dogs and all of them are well cared for, walked, loved, and treated with the outmost care.  None of them run loose, bark or otherwise annoy the neighours but these people just don't seem to think they should do the same.  Sad, isn't it?
