Topic Dog Boards / General / Traveling to the UK with my dogs

Does anyone know if one can now travel directly to the UK with dogs- with all vaccinations, etc. and documentation, without the dogs going into the 6 month quarantine...?

I want to go to the UK to live for 2 years and must take my dogs. I had a solicitor in Wales write to the governmental department, DEFRA, in March. At that time the dogs could have gone to an EU country like France or the Netherlands, been vaccinated AGAIN, obtain a pet Passport, and after staying in that EU country for 6 months, they could get into the UK without further quarantine.

But this morning a friend of mine was listening to "The Savvy Traveler" on PRI and she thought they said that you could now travel directly to the UK - with the proper documentation- and have no further quarantine. id anyone hear that? I've tried contacting the program and had no response.

Where are you. If it is USA or Canada, they are just at the thinking about it stage of including those countries in the Pet Travel scheme. the rabies vaccination (after Microchipping) and then having blood tested at the approved labs for correct titre levels, and then the six month wait, tick and tape treatment, and coming in on approved routes with a carrier that is participating will still apply, with possibly other requirements too!

If it is one of the Rabies free countries like Australia, then yes, but as yet there is no route or carrier participating, so would entail temporay quarantine, with early release.

I am in Kentucky USA.
My dogs have been vaccinated and immunized against every known canine disease and I have the documentation.

You can find information here http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm

Here's a copy of an article that might answer your questions
[link http://www.champdogs.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?tid=10474&pg=1&msg=PstChange#62610] Pet Passport Program extends US - UK Travel [/link]

But figure on at least a year or more before any official changes.
What kind of dogs do you have? UK also has specific breeds that are banned for entry.

If you know anyone who is US military going to UK, there does seem to be a pet passport program recently in effect, but rather hush hush about it all. There is one lab in Texas that is authorised for Titre Testing, but perhaps it is just for military working dogs.

good luck,
sara
