thanks
ps if it helps Rutger is a 10 year old fit Weimaraner

My Boxer developed colitis as a pup with similar symptoms. The first thing we eliminated from his diet was wheat gluton and he's been fine ever sinse. He's now fed Arden Grange Lamb and rice and we're realy strict with his treats/extras etc.I know there are several forms of colitis, some alot worse than others but I hope you can find something that works for him.
well the vets given us some science diet for the time being, he is normally on a dry dog mix that we put a bit of liquid in with supra dog senior so we will probably mix the two for a while!
thanks
No personal experience of it but my friend had a goldie with it. She changed him to a raw food diet & it never bothered him again :)
Lot of info on it at the link below :)

Colitis is not a disease but a symptom. What causes it will vary from dog to dog. Dietary intollerances are an obvious cause but so is stress. At this age it may just be a one off, something he has eaten out and about for instance but if it occurs again you may need to try to identify what precipitates it and what helps alleviate it. Many dog owners have found Chappie a very good food for sufferers and has been recommended by vets for decades and indeed my old Dandie, who suffered very badly as a youngster to the point I did not think she would survive, did very well on this before we got her settled on Beta living until her 16th year :)

Hi
My dog developed colitis about 3 months after he had his spleen removed age 9 at the time). Not sure if it was something to do with the op or the stress of it. I tried Hills as recommended by the vet to start, with no success. I then discovered Nature Diet Lite. Within about 2 weeks there was no blood and very few symptoms for the next 18 months.
Hope this works for Rutger.

It tends to be only sold in Local pet stores and petsathome here in west yorkshire. You can buy it direct from the manufacturer, but not sure as yet if they have online faclities.
It is a wet food and comes in boxes of 18 packs. My dog used to eat just over two packs a day, I paid 11.00 for 1 box.
Put "nature diet" into your search engine and you should find the website.
Hope this helps.
