Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / is my puppy too old for small puppy bites?
- By BritsMom [us] Date 17.01.06 21:09 UTC
I wrote in earlier about my new baby, an 11 mos. old Britt. When I got him from the shelter they gave me a starter bag for the first few days, large bites Adult food but he wouldn't touch it. I went to the pet store and bought this ungodly expensive puppy food, bad idea on my part that I bought 44 lbs. of it, it's supposed to be for large breed pups. It's tiny, itty bitty pellets and he wouldn't touch that either. I feel like since he's almost a year he's too old for puppy food but he refuses to eat adult either. I noticed right away that he has an extremely sensitive stomach so his food is natural made up of oatmeal, grains, and chicken, supposedly easy on the tummy. I need recommendations!! He's too skinny from growing up in a shelter and I just want to make sure he's eating properly and gaining a healthier weight. I tried putting warm water in it, mixing the two and putting water in it, adding a little beef broth...nothing. Can't have my little guy starving. Please help.

Can you get raw food for him, like chicken wings, or mince food? (doggy, not human ;) ) Mine love raw chicken and raw tripe, minced. You can mix this in with the kibble which can help a 'fussy' dog.

Most dogs cant resist Raw green tripe mixed in,and it help them put weight on,Lamb breast is also great for this purpose.
If you really want thim to eat this food, then i wouldnt give him a choice, put the bowl down for 10 minutes and if he hasnt touched it,pick it back up and try again at next feeding time.He will eventually eat,no 'healthy' dog will starve itself.

Britsmom are you in the US? This make a difference for food recommendations.

Can i ask what the food is called that you bought? :)
