Two weeks in now...... Hows everyone doing???
Time for a role call!!
Kerry?
Waffy??????
Dippy?
Haze?????
Jollyjem??
Mary???
Polly???
Michelle???
Kate????
Its all gone a bit (ominously?) quiet on the western front!!! ;)
Im afraid to say I had none yesterday (yaayyy!!) but... have had 2 puffs of a cigarette this morning :( think I need to go get one of those inhilator thangs!!
Oooooh a word of warning on the inhilator things - I had one when I was trying to give up smoking a few years back. Don't what every you do use it and then have a naughty ciggy afterwards - I was violently sick (and they taste nasty). Mind you - I did overdose as I didn't read the instructions properly and think I went through a whole pack in a day - poorly Hayley!!
Good Luck to all you people trying to give up - I gave up a 20+ a day (60+ when on a night out) habit when I got together with my OH (3 years ago) and now only smoke very very occasionally - ie when very drunk but the taste it leaves in my mouth makes me regret and not want to start it up again. Guess I'm quite lucky that way.
Good Luck!!! :D

I havnt given up completely but have cut down by half, i dont feel a failure as im doing what suits me best and in the long run will be easier to quit. I should have quit by end of Feb hopefully. Thats weird about the inhalators, ive been having about 4 puffs a day on em and about 6 roll ups too! The do taste nasty tho and i cant believe how strong they are, u just have a tiny puff and it makes you cough, weird :D
Ahhh thats where I went wrong I think I was having about 4 puffs an hour on them AND still smoking - overdose on nicotine!!! :D

I think your right Mich... most people who have the greatest success seem to have managed it in their own way!
Its interesting because there seems to be soo many different schools of thought on this, for every person who has told me that the ones that cut down are most successful in quiting long term...I have another person saying those that wake up,never have another, stop dead, are most sucessful

!!
I think its horses for courses, and anyway to my mind any cigarette I
dont have is better than how I was last year smoking 10 to 15 a day.... rather than concentrating on the odd puff I have now when I slip up.
(ahahahahaha..
see! Im still in denial!!!!!!! (damn it!! lol)
But I can totally see your logic Mich.. right now I'm debating wether to 'cut down' as opposed the total stop Im trying to do.... I worry that its too drastic and I'll cave and blow all the good `ive done???
ok I think Im kidding myself here and trying to talk myself out of a good thing! ;)
Think I'll continue to try to give up completely..but wont beat myself up over the odd lapse!
sitting here with a bowl full of chopped carrots holding them like cigarettes then munching like a rabbid rabbit!!!??? when will this get easier...aaaaaargh!!!!!!!
>sitting here with a bowl full of chopped carrots holding them like cigarettes then munching like a rabbid rabbit!!!??? when will this get easier...aaaaaargh!!!!!!!
Ha ha....i can imagine, you sitting there smoking a carrot :-D
I'm here, Reporting for duty :-D I haven't had a fag since 1st Jan :-D :-D :-D
Also drink plenty of water, that really helps your cravings......I hate water, so i drink it through a straw :-D

Kerry you have done fantastic then, well done! I Tried to totally stop but couldnt do it so im doin it gradually. I find it easier because i know they are there and can have one if i want. If i stopped completely it would be like theyre not allowed and in a way its like being told what to do and i dont do that lol. Whereas if they are there, its my choice and i can refuse or not. Oh gawd this sounds really confusing but im sure you know what im on about lol :D
I understand Michelle :-) And totally agree with you :-D
Hi every body,
well I am probably the most grumpy and miserable woman on the planet, but I haven't had a fag so far!!!! This is the first time I've ever stopped smoking, and if I'd known I would find it this difficult I would never have stopped. Does that make sense? Anyway here we all are dealing with the addiction head on, and that's a good thing. Any one else noticing that coffee affects them more than normal. I find I get very jittery after a mug of real coffee, but that doesn't stop me drinking it. Got to have some pleasures left in life, oh oh, here I go again , grump grump grump. I am using Allen Carrs' EasyWay for women to stop smoking book, At this exact moment wondering about rolling up the pages and smoking them .
LOL DD :-D I've had a migraine for the last 3 days :-( Probley caused by the amount of coffee i am drinking since quitting, but i can't get rid of the damn thing

Hi all,
Sorry I've not been on but my mums twin sister died last week and it's been an absolute nightmare. :( :( :(
She was only 53 and was admitted to hospital with a kidney infection. This was left untreated as she suffered with terrible back pain for the last 15 years so she just assumed the pain in her back was her arthritis playing up.
By the time she was admitted it had turned into septecemia and her organs started shutting down. They told us that there was nothing more they could do so we had to just sit with her and wait for her to die :( It was the worst experience of my whole life and now I am worried sick about my mum,she is in bits. :( :(
To make the whole experience worse, her children (who are horrible by the way) had not seen her for more than 2 and a half years and have caused lots of trouble. They expected to just walk into her house (where she lived alone) and take whatever they wanted (anything worth anything)They have now disapeared with her life insurance policy and we have not been able to get hold of them.
So sorry guys but after the week I've had I am still a smoker.I will try after her funeral, which is on Thursday :(
Sorry again :(
Very sorry to hear of the sad events which have happened to you and your Mum. You must both be in shock right now. At least your Mum has you for support ,
yours sincerely DD.
So sorry to hear that Waffy.
Dont worry about quitting right now, you will know when the time is right :-)
Sending big {{{HUGS}}} to you & your mum xx

Hi Waffy,
What a horrible time you've had. Forget giving up for now, it's just not the right time. In my experience, family deaths can bring out the worst in people. I've got uncles with arms the length of Orangutangs' now due to the weight of stuff they carried out after a death in our family.
I hope you and your mum get through Thursday without added trauma.
Best wishes
Still not had a smoke since new years eve at 10.30pm..well that was my last cig left in packet...could murder one though..but not giving in although my nails cant take much more chewing

Well done all of you, keep it up, its a thing ive never ever tried as both my parents smoked and I hated the smell as a child, unfortunately two of my kids and oldest granddaughter smoke, it takes me all my time to empty an ashtray. When my late hubby was ill they all smoked outside if they came to visit and they still do this, which I appreciate. Once you have managed to stop smoking completely you will be amazed how "smelly" smokers are with smoke, my hubby did not believe me when I used to say this to him, but when he stopped smoking, if the kids visited he used to say when they went home that their clothes stunk LOL!!!!!
How is every one doing? Not going to talk about me, too boring! Suffice to say , me and OH not speaking now for 3 days. Am I bothered?? No , cos all that I can think about is , guess what? Hope to see some positive postings coming up soon to keep me going.
Best Wishes to all you new non smokers, DD.

ooooh DD!!!!! your not alone!!!!!!!!!
perhaps our poor OH's should have a support thread here too!! ;)
well, Im still not doing too well have only had one day this week where I didnt smoke, today Ive had 2 :( but Im forcing myself to stay in tonight (thats my punishment!!) also it keeps me out of the nightmare drink in one hand fag in the other situation!!! (omg,as I read that back, I realise could it sound
more unattractive!!??..sound like Bet Lynch on a night out!!!!???
*deep sigh*
this is soooooooooooooo hard....
So a Huge (((
Well Done)))) to Kerry and those of you who have'nt had one yet!!!!
I'll get there soon..hopefully!!!!!
and
(((
Husky Hugs and drooly kisses for Waffy)))
Awww thanks :-) All your support has been overwhelming.
I went to the dentist yesturday, and he said i have a gum disease :-( most probably caused because i was smoking for so long :-( My gums ache so much....but i aint going back to smoking now or ever again :-D
Good Luck to everyone else who's quit, or trying too :-D

ooooh..thats a point!
phew, glad you just posted that as I was debating sneaking out for just 'one puff'..... that just cured me of my craving!!
Mmmm! Well here's Miss Super Grumpy speaking now. People who've never smoked get gum disease too. Well I hope you told the dentist that you no longer smoked. I saw my dentist the other week and as I went in I told him very clearly that all he could say to me was good things as I had stopped smoking. It worked! I think he and the young assistant were both terrified of this middle aged woman glaring at them whilst manicly chewing gum. On a more serious note , what did they say you should , or they will do about the gum disease? Glad that you are still a non smoker, 2 weeks tomorrow!
I did tell him that i'd quit :-) I have to see the dental hygienist regarding the gum disease in March

March?????? wow!! is that the soonest you can get an appoint.
lol.....Im sitting here now checkin' out my gums in the mirror!!??
Oh well, its keeping me from going out for a sly puff!!!!
Huskygal ,
you are doing what would be totally impossible for me to do. The image of Bet Lynch sounds wonderful right now. lol. How can you go a whole day , no fags and and then another day one or two fags. Amazing! If I light up right now I'd smoke 20 easy in one go! I'ts fascinating the way we all go about dealing with our addictions isn't it?
Good Huskygal ,
you stay of the fags a little longer, ha ha. Justlou, do you live in Scotland, land of no NHS dentists? and hygenists?

No, yr right DD!!
its a reeeeeeeaaly fine line!!! and a horrible feeling knowing everyday Im teetering on the edge and could cave in at any moment!!! *aaaargh!!*
But so far..I feel sooooooo dizzy after Ive sneaked one that it puts me off for a good long while.
I know what you mean tho' Ive smoked for 16 years and never ever quit, I always wished I could be like those friends you have who are 'party smokers' and only smoke now and then and can take it or leave it, I
never thought I could do that!
But now faced with the fact Im never ever going to have a cigarette..its amazing the will power Im finding (and losing..then finding again!!)
I figure if Im too strict I'll just blow it..but if I allow myself the odd fail in the early days...
hopefully Im more likely to succeed???!!!
right now though..I could
kill for one :( :( :( :(
;)
>right now though..I could kill for one
Advice from someone who's been where you are; when that mood strikes, go and
do something. Clean the worktop, hoover the sitting-room, even jump and down waving your arms in the air - do
anything! That desperate craving won't last more than a minute or so - you just need to work through it.
Good luck - trust me, it's well worth doing! :)

your right JG..I know your right...
But right now...Im tempted to go 'clean the worktop' with OH's face!!!
(as he has just thrown a pack of Marlboro lights at me and told me to have one and stop being a cow!!!! :o )
lol....
But seriously..ok....Im off to go play 'where's wilson' (Storm's football) that usually takes a good long while before the Husky's worn out!!!
:D
thanks JG
G'night all xxxxxx
Me too, kill for one that is . I'm first time stopping smoking after 30 years believing that I enjoyed it. Now I've questioned the whole thing I realise I am an addlict to nicotine. There is nothing else to say!
Goodnight all, DD.
I live in Chester :-) I haven't been able to get a dentist since last June, i registered with this one the other day, but there is a waiting list to see the hygienist.
Olivia :-D You Can Do It!
I thought that the whole dentist crisis was just up here in Scotland, obviously not. Well , don't freak out about the dentist saying you have gum disease, and just floss every day. I hated flossing at first but I've got used to it. Also my dentist told me that chewing gum was really good for my teeth and gums. I don't actually enjoy chewing gum that much, esp. as my jaws get sore but if it's good for my teeth and gums I guess I'll struggle on!!!
Thanks DD :-) I'll try the floss thing, i can't really chew chewing gum at the moment because i need a few fillings and it hurts to chew.

Nice to see you giving it another try Kerry. As for the gum disease, unfortunately, in smokers (or ex smokers) it's pretty common (I have the same problem) because smoking reduces the blood flow to the gums. Baz and I have not smoked for over a year now, and my gums are looking better than they have for a long time. Everything about giving up smoking is positive - as far as I am aware, there are NO negative sides to it. Let's face it - you smoke....you stink! So, you may put a bit of weight on but it'll come off later, so don't fret about it, you will smell nice, your breath will be fresher, you won't get out of breath, and you won't be considered a "leper" by the rest of society. You'll also increase your life span - something your kids will thank you for. Non-smokers outnumber smokers heavily so come one, join the majority. Those of you who have kicked the habit are now non-smokers and I salute you - welcome to my world :D :D :D

Well done just remeber next week
WILL BE EASIER than last week.

:( :( :( :(
after managing to go the whole day without any cigarettes..
I go out last night spend first part of evening marvelling about how great it is not to stand in a packed bar and have to worry about burning people with my cigarette anymore (!!??)
Then by 1am I cave in and smoke 4 in a row!!??

whyyyyyy????
So.. thoroughly ashamed of myself today!
(and my hair smells..my tongue is like Ghandi's flipflop..feeling ill and deserving to be!)
:(
Just keep going :-) You'll get there in the end........Honestly :-D
Aw, Huskygal,
don't beat yourself up about it. That was yesterday and it's another day! The main thing is you wanting to stop, like justlou says , you will get there in the end. That's the good thng about the Ban coming into Scotland in March, nobody will be smoking in pubs and clubs etc. It should help people quit smoking I think. Let's face it , it's too bl###y cold most of the time to stand outside having a fag!
Well still not had a ciggie here...but been in bed for almost two days with a retched cold..now ive got the most dreadful cough..ive coughed that much my chest is so sore...think a trip to my doctors is in order..but will carry on without the cigs

Oooooooooh poor Pam :( thats miserable! hope your feeling better soon.
Dippy: Dont be sympathetic to me Lol.. I was Baaaad!!! :(
well hopefully Ive made up for it today.. have had none, phew! and hoorah and huzzah!
Iam seriously, seriously thinking of calling a hypnotist tomorrow tho' I just cant bear this battle every day, for me it seems to get worse in the evening? during the day Im busy but evening time Im winding down and the craving just seems to hit me out of the blue at a million miles an hour :(
Also Im kinda sick of being the whinging smoker the non smokers reading this must think it sooo pathetic!? eek!:( :( and now I cant sleep :( :(.... But my breath smells nice!? *sigh* ;)
Hope you managed to carry on being nicotinie free, it's not easy is it!!!! Read this thing about lazer therapy on acu puncture points of the body that has had a hugh success rate. Quite frankly tonight I could attempt to smoke the lazer thingy. Aaarrg. Like you I feel such a moaning minnie .All I seem to do is go on about me, me me , oh , yes meee!!!!!!!! Could become a habit, ha ha, pathetic attempt at a joke there! Looked up the NHS smoke line yesterday , and found it really helpful, don't know if you've looked at it yet? The other thing I've done , is read Allen Carrs' book for women to stop smoking. O.k. so it hasn't totally worked on me! How ever I have to say some of the stuff he says has stuck with me. Still want a fag, but hey , no intentions of having one.
Keep on going , all of us.
Olivia :-) Where are you tonight? We should have a new post for week 3 :-D
Well done DD :-) Your doing fantastic.

Lasers!!??
 Steady on Buzz Lightyear!!! lol.
Looooove the comment about smoking it tho' DD he,he he! ;)
well Im afraid once again (quelle surprise!?) Ive failed and had one..well it was only half!..well actually it was only about 3 puffs..soooooo... hardly counts!?
;)
I was really good all day..I only faltered once but thankfully Mackleback and Shell saved me by chatting in the chat room, which took my mind off it! been really busy tonight so havent thought about it, just been for a nice bracing walk with Wuluf so I should be feeling all healthy.. and what do I do?? come back home..cup of tea..and what goes with a cup of tea?...oh yeah, even tho' it was pouring down and I'd been really good all day I still stand there in the freezing cold outside the back door and light up :( :(
So
thats it now Im phoning the hypnotherapist tomorrow!
Note I didnt do it today like I promised!!!????there's no hope for me!!!! lol.
How much have you got in your jar now kerry?? I keep meaning to do that, its such a good idea, think it'd bring it home to me to just how much of my money goes 'up in smoke' ;)
Trying to match DD's jokes there!! lolAnyyyyyyway (enough of me!!!! )
You guys are
still doing amazingly well..:).. so
proud of you!!
(and envious!)
:D
I have 68.00 saved in my jar :-)
Olivia the last time i tried to quit smoking i contacted a hypnotherapist :-) and he wanted 90.00 for a 1 hour and 15 min session, he said i wouldn't need anymore after that......but he also told me that smoking is not addictive, it's all in the mind apparently

It's printed all over the packets that it is highly addictive, so thats where i got confused :-)

Hmmm, does make you wonder Kerry!
Well Im trawling through websites at the moment trying to get a bit of an idea and background, prices and claims do seem to differ wildly

Think I may well pop down to doctors surgery and enquire if they recommend any practitioners of Hypnotherapy?
I'm desperate!
I have also started my jar this morning :D
and put a little label on it... tho' I notice that after OH left for work he'd managed to write on it:
'
So it'll be Macdonalds and not The Ritz for dinner with the proceeds'
I am even more determined now to quit!!! lol... the cheek!
Roflmao :-D
Good Luck, I hope you find one soon......your doctors should be able to advise you :-)

We are giving up too :) started off by cutting right back as OH has 2 interviews this week so is abit stressed out & needs them, we are away for a few days from fri, so plan is to totally pack in when we get back on wednesday, getting married nx year so the extra money will be handy & also want to buy a van lol
I started by packing in at work, which I thought would be really hard, especially when nipping for a smoke was my escape, but luckily as I have been really busy this wek it hasn't bothered me, & yes, I have to agree, now when people come to see me who smoke the smell knocks me sick.. It has made me cut down at home to. We have always smoked outside, never in the house but I am finding I am going out less & less. No patches, no gum, no sweets so far either, I am one of these that believes if I WANT to give up I WILL do it without needing anything, if I dont wnat to give up then theres no hope lol

Hi Em!
Noooooooooo! another mal owner for me to be envious of!!! ;)
Welcome Aboard! there's plenty or room..a few empty seats in our little circle at the moment :-o (where are the others this week??)
Keep in touch, and feel free to PM us all if you need to gripe about it all ;)
Best of Luck to you and OH (send our luck for the interview too!)
Had a look at your website link..what a nice website! and Im now hopelessly in love with Scooby!:D :D
