My 3 year old GSP started straining last night and is passing soft runny stools and whinging when she trys to defaecate. It does not seem like true runs but as if she is constipated and this is the overspill (sorry for being so descriptive). She ate some breakfast but was not anywhere near as enthusiastic as she normally is about food. She is also a bit shaky. i tried to take her temp but she cried out as soon as thermometer touched her back end. I have an appt at vets at 11 but just wondered if any one had any thoughts. there is no sickness and no blood in faeces. She is not usually a chewer and I have not given her any bones or different foods.
Thanks
Sue
Hi Sue,
Hope she's feeling better - how did the appt at the vets go?

Hi Karen
thanks for asking. They gave her something for spasms and an anti inflammatory injection...thought it might be colitis. She was much better then till last night and it started again but she is passing blood with it now. She does not seem desperately ill though. Just got back from vets again and they have kept her in for xrays and maybe a scan to rule out any partial blockage so I have to phone after lunch unless they ring me first. Such a worry....:(
Hiya,
They are such a worry some times! I hope there's no blockage - poor girl, hopefully there will be good news after lunch.
Take care,
Karen

Just phoned but did not get to speak to vet. All they could see was lots of gas. I can speak to vet later when I collect her at teatime. She is still having the runs and has trashed the cage!!! Typical GSp, tho' at home she is good and I do not need to crate her. :(
Hi,
Have you spoken to the vet yet - have they shed any light? Hopefully just a yukky bought of gastroenteritis and she'll be right as rain in no time!

She is home now, very quiet and sleepy. just gotta watch her and give light diet and see how she goes. Vet does not think its infection but not sure what caused it.
