I have a birth certificate for a relative and in the parents box it has her mothers name and her mothers maidan name however it is scribbled and you cant work out what it says.  Does anyone know if there is a way of finding any other record of it to try and find out what it could be?

The parish records might help. Also the marriage documents of your grandparents. :)

If you take it to the registrars office they should be able to help. If nothing else they are good ar reading what by todays standards is unusual handwriting.

Could you scan it and post an image on the 'net - maybe some of us could have a bash at deciphering...

Was it a certificate you ordered from the Records Office in Southport ?
If so, try giving them a call.  I found them really helpful when I had a similar query.
