I am looking after a 7 year old golden ret.  He is a lovely dog but it is his first day here and I have him for 2 weeks.  He is getting on famously with my lab although she is getting jealous at times when i give him attention etc.  The thing is apart from the Yorkie for a day, I haven't looked after 2 dogs at a time like this and wonder if there are any tips on coping.  For example how will sleep time work tonight?????? should I have them both sleep in the same room?  Also walk time, should I walk my dog first or the visitor?  I tried today on a double lead but it was a disaster one pulling one way and one pulling the other!! my brother told me about someone he knows who walks 10 dogs at one time. How on earth is this possible.
Anyway all tips for a novice pet sitter would be greatly accepted and appreciated.
Thank you so much

I don't think walking 10dogs safetly is possible just incredibly stupid!!:eek:

I can walk mine together but for dogs that don't know each other or if how one reacts may set the other one off, i'd say walk seperately.
As for bed times? are your own dogs in seperate rooms to you anyway? if so and you can't keep an eye on them perhaps it would be best to seperate them.
As in our case one dog is very used to getting up early with my husband for a pee and what not whereas the other will laze in bed till after 9am and woe betide the younger one going to her for a play he'll get a stern ticking off.

Good luck!! :D

I too would separate for bed and walk one at a time for the first few days  then maybe you could try walking them together when they are a little more used to each other.

Remember that this dog is a visitor so I would make sure that I dont alter my routine with my own dogs and dont put thier noses out of joint by giving more attention to the visitor.

yes i think this sounds sensible.  I also can't believe it can be possible for 10 dogs to walk together at a time.  I have seen dog walkers in NY walking 4 or 5 and still wonder how they do it.  I would certainly be worrying walking just the two of them that something might set one or the other off or if another dog comes and starts on them.  I will walk them separately.  I think I will also separate for bed time I do worry putting them both in one room.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions

Yes you are right.  Don't worry I am feeding them seperately my dog first and then our guest.  So far so good though!

I feed together but in seperate rooms one in the hall one in the kitchen and always put top dogs food down first.

My friend walks her 7 Cavaliers all together and hasn't lost one yet. But she lives in the middle of nowhere so can find large deserted areas quite easily. I wouldn't like to do more than 3 or 4, and if they are medium size like Labs, not more than 2!! :-)

I walk my 4 dalmatians all together, and when we had another visiting, she came along too, so I was walking 5 at once. :)

The old ones are the best ones ;) :D

Have you got a piccie of all your four together as would love to see it as we always comment when we see Dallies on our walks on how beautiful they are and four together must be a wonderful sight :) Better than 101 ;)

Do you not think thats risky? i'm not saying your dogs would cause trouble but how would you handle it if an aggressive dog confronted all five together? would none of them retaliate?

Not really a problem - my dogs know all the dogs in the village and vice versa. There doesn't seem to be any really aggressive ones -  at least, we've not met any in the 18 years we've been here! ;) The occasional tetchy word can get passed between dogs, but that's pretty much as far as it goes.
