my bitch has had this since she was 6months she has had 3 attacks so far and has been on metacam, the vet told us that see will grow out of it at about 16 months (she is 18 months now). when i took her out this morning she was limping again ( i think another attack) what i wanted to no is does anyone have any experiance of this if so what age did the dog get over it (if infact they did) and did it cause any long term affects.

They should grow out of it when the bones stop growing.  The age at which this happens will depend on bred and the individual.  There shoudl be no permanenteffects.

The jury seems to be out on that one.  It seems to be a problem of fast growing young dogs, so happens to thise that grwo quickly or in spurts, and that tendency can of course be inherited.  Feedign may contribute etc etc.  Also it hapens to dogs with no family history of teh problem.  As she is a GSD I think she may not have totally stopped grwoing yet, but shoudl ahve by two years of age.
