Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / One dog improves... and the other goes backwards!!

I got Remy's new Walkezee harness through yesterday, after a bit of palava with the post going wrong and me not getting it and blah blah...  anyhoo, I rang the woman up, she apologised profusely and said she'd post another one, and I got it the next day!  Very impressive!

Works very well I must say, he's only had two walks with it on but he has improved dramatically.  Still got a way to go of course - 2 1/2 years of pulling and generally ignoring me to work on - but I'm happy with the results so far.

Opi, on the other hand... she decided this morning that she would abandon her well behaved self completely.  She's always had little niggles - she's one of those dogs that will just *STOP* to sniff something, hurting my arm with the suddenness of it, and she's always had an obsession with meeting other dogs.  It seems today she decided that she was going to sniff things, meet dogs and try and eat pet store rabbits regardless of what I wanted - and she did, the little madam!  She walked nicely until a collie came to say hi, then threw all her weight into the leash to say hi for as long as she could.  In Pets at Home, she suddenly cut across in front of me to drool over the rabbits, and in the end I had to resort to a quick swipe of her rump to snap her out of it.  Down the treat aisle, she just wouldn't sit and wait while I got the treats, and at the till, she kept trying to pull me between legs and udner a trolley to say hi to a lab. arg!

So, the two are on separate walks for a while for some trainnig; Opi on the now unused Halti Harness, and Remy on his Walkezee.  Opi WILL learn to keep walking and not just stop suddenly, she WILL learn to walk past other dogs without pulling like a husky to meet them... better get some serious treats out I guess. Sigh!

Lol! You just reminded me of a program I saw the other day - about a dog rescue shelter in the US, there was a behaviourist trying to get a teenager to train his lunatic lab - when she left, he said "he doesn't need training, he's just young, they all grow out of it in the end."  I was sat there watching Opi carving circles in the floor trying to get her tail, and I couldn't help but laugh... she's 2 1/2 already, when's she going to grow out of it??? :D
