jessica is now 5 months and 2 weeks this thursday and she is turning into a monster! she knows to go outside for a wee and she has been doing so successfully for about a month and a half now without any "accidents".but in the last few weeks she is becoming naughty.ill take her out for upto 40/45 minutes sometimes and she WILL NOT go do a poo.she spends the entire time chasing leaves.then last night when i brought her in i turned my back for 1 second and she started doing a poo so i said firmly NO!and took her straight outside to finish off and she still didn't go.now since the beginning she has had an obsession with weeing and pooing in my mums room as tho she thinks she has a choice of an indoor and an outdoor toilet!i have used the cleaning products suggested on here in their room but she still does it!she also used to be really good in the car laying down for the whole journey but now she has started leaping about and sitting on the back parcel shelf.its up down up down!i was wondering whether it was her age but i really dont know.where has my little good girl gone?

she is turning into a hooligan and is pushing all your buttons to see what she can get away with!
In the car I would put a harness on her or put her in the boot with a dog guard for your safety your passangers and hers.
As far as the toileting goes ...You should go back to basics as if she is a 8 wk old pup and start again .
Out every 20/30 mins toilet good girl and back in she will have to go eventually when she does loads of very enthusiastic praise .
Remember straight out after every meal and before bed and first thing in the morning.
Personally when a pup is showing signs of toileting in the house eg:circling sniffing the floor I dont say NO I say quick.. quick .. make a noise to distract for a minute to have time to get them outside.

Don't forget that toilet training often goes out of the window with the first season as well, and depending on her breed, 5 and a half months isn't too early for this either. Even so, going back to basics won't do any harm ;)

actually i resorted to a high pitch scream and she's like oh my god whats happened and the poo pops back up her bum!i know its extreme but watching her about to s**t on my floor seems to bring weird noises out of me!i seem to know i had to revert back as tho she was 8 weeks so i have been doing,i must have read it on here but again she seems to take the piss.she knows the longer she takes to poo/wee the longer she gets to stay outside playing.she's only short of a hoodie and a can of spray paint

is she a teenager is that it?

shes a red cocker spaniel if that helps with anything btw

dont worry about the scream I have resorted to that at some point just to get her attention...it can be very frustrating when you think your getting somewhere then it all goes down the pan...keep at it
Its very satisfying when in a few months (could be 12) time she taps you to tell you she wants to go for a pee!!!
then you will wonder why you worried so much ...constant supervision and if you have to leave her for a minute or two put her in the kitchen where its easier to clean up any mis-haps....

thanks for that i will keep on going with her.i thought i'd make an impatient bad mother if ever i had kids now i know i would!why has she decided back on pooing indoors tho?

are they normal poos?
have you changed her diet?
Is she well?
If everything is fine with her then I think she is just being a puppy and maybe your not being as quick to toilet her as you would when she was very young I've been guilty too...
I think also that when you see that they are going to the toilet outside you think they've cracked it ...a bit like training when you are doing really well then suddenly they stop listening to you and give you a look as if to say "s*d o**"
You forget that its a constant and you must continue with the training even when you think you've accomplished it...
dont know if I got that across right...

hehe it works tho!poor girls deserves a better trainer than me.her diet is exactly the same and she is feeling VERY well.her poo is lovely not too hard and not too soft a bit like ice cream.in fact it would look lovely on my floor if i left it,what a good idea!
Cat - When you take her out to poo, I find that it really helps if she's on a lead and if you keep her moving (to make her want to poo) - you can just walk round in circles, or get her to walk to and fro in front of you while you stand still.
When she's on a lead she can't chase leaves or get distracted, which is what I think is happening - she is having so much fun and so distracted when she's outside that she just forgets to poo. Then when she's back inside again, the urge takes her. I can remember being a little kid and having so much fun playing with my friends that I just didn't want to go to the loo - I think it's the dog equivalent!

i do take her on a long lead, she NEVER goes without a lead.god help me if she did id be running down the motorway chasing after her!maybe she can hold a poo in now,so she just leaves it to brew!
Ah, but you mentioned she played with all the leaves... :P ... the idea is to keep her moving so she can't play with anything and will keep her mind on the job.
You may perhaps have made "noises" when she pooed and it may have shocked her abit, she might have decided it's abit scarey to go in front of you in case you act strange again...
When she does eventually go, I'd suggest taking out a really special titbit, like liver or chicken, which she gets immediately she has "done the deed" as you may find you can then even train her to go on command... :D
Good luck

we are always moving,i walk through the fields and up the lane with her but on windy days leaves are going to blow past us and she chases them all.i know she knows that going up the lane means poo time.she has no problem going in front of me,even if its on my floor!
Dear Cat,
I can sooooo sympathise. Our Miss Thing (2/3 year old SBT/Whippet X) has decided that she actually prefers to go in the kitchen rather than the cold, dark garden during winter nights. Gave her the benefit of the doubt on a couple of occasions but four nights on the trot?? And the fifth accompanied by a positive ocean of wee??! All this done in the dead of night you understand and signalled to me in the morning by the GSD who, instead of coming to greet me on the landing as usual, puts his head on his paws and rolls his eyes.
So it's out with bio liquid and back in the crate for madam.
Good luck!

i understand how you feel missthing!she hasn't actually weed on our floor since training her to go outside but has done a couple of poos.after i started the post i took her outside for 30 mins, she did a wee straightaway as usual, after 30mins i brought her back in and put her in the living room to play and after 2 mins she had gone and done a poo!i have just come back from another walk where she did a wee and no poo so im holding my breath!she is really confusing me,she always used to go for a poo and now she is not going.

is there something i should know about a cocker spaniel between 5 and 6 months?im pulling my hair out with her:rolleyes:
Oh, fair enough
