I've had a VERY quiet year showise last year due to various things ( moving, pups, Trevors illness etc) so I was really looking forward to showing at Crufts this year, but as Pastoral day fell on the Thursday I thought I'd better ask for a day's unpaid leave from work befoe I sent my entries off ( I teach so although I get loads of holidays I have no choice when I can take them )- you can guess what happened - my boss said NO !!!.
I'm gutted - I know that I moan about Crufts but this will be the first one I've missed for the last 15 years - I hardly ever take time off sick and work my socks off for my job but I tell you what folks - next time I'll just go sick - who said honesty is the best policy

Yvonne

You are just going to have to be really sick that day then ;) Luckily, my head teacher has said yes I can have working day off work but hubby's head has said no ;)

Ooh, bad luck. Will your boss remember what day it is if you go sick? If not, do it! If he/she will, you might have to miss it and make sure to go sick next year when it'll be Friday! :-(

no point now in going sick - I did'nt send off my entries until I'd checked with the head and then binned them after he'd said no - you bet I'm going sick next year - oooh I can feel a migraine coming on right now !.

Oh that's awful!

they wont even tell my Oh until the week before so imagine how I feel!

I have a
Cunning plan!
We will form a crack team of CDers.. donning black balaclavas we will swoop at your place of work...and whisk you away, making our demands as the TLF...Trevor Liberation Front!
you cant get into trouble from employer for being Kidnapped! ;)

I threw a sicky once for a mid week agility show. Bu***er me, the local television news was there, I spent most of the day hiding in my friends van only to find out afterwards it was only shown on the Southern news, not the South East.
i have the other problem, my daughter who is 11 wants to go to crufts again with us, but then she found out the day we are going she needs to take a day off school, you think she would be jumping with joy, but she said she is worried that i get fined the 100.00 if she gets caught off school , i have told her not to worry about it, but it must be worrying her as she has been talking to her grandmother about it ?
i know the school won't give her the day off even if i asked for a holiday for her as we have a huge prob personally with the head teacher so that would be out the question, told OH that i will just tell daughter that i have arranged a day off school for her and not let on to her then she will not worry so much.

Why don't you write to the education authorities asking for time off to go to crufts for 'educational purposes'? ;) Most schools allow it. Explain that you have a problem with the head teacher of her school and you expect the head to say no. Either that or write to your MP, or even your newspaper to see if they would like to do a piece on her for there paper? I can't see the head not letting her go then. Think of the publicity

Not that I agree to taking kids out of school, but this is CRUFTS :D

It's only one day, that's ridiculous! I know of kids being taken out for several weeks just for a holiday, surely any sensible school would allow one single day off?? As you say, it is CRUFTS!!!!!
