I am desperetly trying to get hold of my vet (its after hours here) because one of my pups fell down and is now refusing to get up i have check the legs and they appear fine. He is not crying or appears to be in pain but is refusing to get up which is really worrying me if its not his legs what could it be ?

How awful. You're not saying much about how or where he fell. Spine-injury is a possibility. Or maybe he's in chock? Try to keep him warm and secure. Don't move him about in case he's injured his back. Someone else will come along to give you better advise later, I'm sure.
Hope he's better already. Good luck, fingers crossed here,
Karen

when i say fell i mean collapse he didnt fall from anything he was just standing there and then just sort of went wobbly and went of his legs.
I have finally got hold of the vet and ill be meeting the vet there in an hour.

i have no idea what could be wrong with him but he has me very worried it has been 2 hours now and he still wont get up and he piddled on me rather then getting of me to do it

Just got back from the vets he had to have surgery because he had swallowed a thumb tack and it was obstructing his stomach. He came out of surgery about half an hour ago and they sent me home saying he would be fine now. I have no idea where he could have gotten a thumb tack because i dont use thumb tacks in my house because i dont want to destroy my walls. They did just start going into the courtyard which runs of the street so i guess it could have rolled under the fence but the gap under the fence is very small (less than a centremetre it is just slightly of the ground) and the thumb tack was surprisingly large i dont even know how he managed to swallow it with no obvious discomfort. It teaches you that you cant turn your back on the pups for 2 seconds.

Anyway pups going to be ok he is going to be on fluids and antibiotics in the vets for 3 days then be allowed home but wont be allowed to play with the other pups until the stitches come out. Poor little baby i could have cried when they told me what it was i was so scared for him and also trying to rack my brain to work out where he got the damn thing from

I have found them in the bottoms of my shoes where I have picked them up when out, sot hat is the most likely source someone walked it in and it fell out.

Glad pup is OK.

pup came home he doesnt want to get up much he is still a little sore but he is looking bright and is whining because he wants to go to the other pups. Should be another week before he is really ready to move about and in about 2 weeks he should be allowed back in with the other pups.

The only thing i have a big roblem with him is i have noticed he is trying to bite his stitches do any of you have any suggestions in how i could sto him from doing this ?

The only thing that might help is a 'lampshade collar' you can get them from the Vets! Glad he's ok! How old is he??
- By slee [au] Date 15.01.06 01:13 UTC
he is 8 weeks now going on 9 we tried the collar but he went nuts and the vet didnt want him jumping around to much incase he busted one of his stitches. I have just been near him all the time and i push his head out of the way when he tries to bite at them i think it is very itchy

I would put a baby vest on him.
