Whats the strangest person you had trying to buy a puppy?

This one man sounded lovely on the phone & was very nice when he came to see the pups.

When he came back to pick the pup up he brought his son (who was about 17-18) he then asked if I could shut the mum away as he son did not like dogs!!!!  Why want a dog then???

I gave him his deposit back & sent him off with out a pup!!

I have also had phone calls asking for a big bitch as they want to have a few litters - a large agressive male as they want a guard - do these people think I would sell them a pup!

well i have waiting lists before i breed any girl but i have had people find me thru my breed club and call and ask if i have any pups ask for aggressive ones ( i just laugh and tell them i dont breed agression and would never sell anyone a pup who wanted to make a pup aggressive and hang up), ive had someone want a pup for dog trapping purposes (dont sell to them either) and the strangest one yet some one wanted a BLUE coloured RED cattle pup i couldnt stop laughing for a week about that one

This man was waiting for a pup a good couple of months before my girl came into season.

Slee - do people on your waiting list still buy your pups?

I had 10 waiting - 4 of these had my pups - 1 was the bloke scared of dogs,4 I did not have enough dogs for (they did not want a bitch) & the other one had bought 1 somwhere else.

She had 8, so I did have to advertise 1 - we kept 2, 1 went to a lady who had phoned the stud dog owner to enquire about pups.

Have you never had to advertise?

I have 2 people still wanting a pup from me on my next litter which will not be for another year at least!

I had a waiting list and 7 people have either dropped out, gone else where or waiting until later on in the year

Yep often the best laid plans as they say.  To be honest I never like taking more bookings than two for each sex until pups are born, as I hate to have to disappoint people.  Once I have this number I try to get others on the the head of someon elses list and if they are low down on their list then make it clear that I will bear them in mind and betwen us sort them out, once we know who has what.

I currently have 10 people waiting for bitches from my next litter.  Only three are serious two who have had them from me before and one who has booked her holiday prior to the puppies arrival.  I am not overly keen on bookings in advance as I do not have a rare breed and nearly always end up wasting a lot of time and energy ringing around only to find they have got them elsewhere or got another breed

I have had my fair share of nutters though.  The most bizzare was the bloke who had watched 102 dalmatians and asked if you could realy train the dog to answer the phone as he thought it might come in handy :rolleyes:

yeah i always end up with more people then pups because while mine is a common breed in aus there isnt many registered breeders in my local area. Most are unregistered and these days people do prefer registered pups because they know the dog is full red cattle and not mixed with blue or stumpy tail or any type of a collie when mixed with those breeds they still come out looking alot like a red but usually dont have as dark of red colour or not as many markings . Alot of unregistered will mix what they have in their backyard so maybe a full red and a part red mixed with blue stumpy or collie . They also know the money they are spending is exactly on what they want and sometimes the unregistered breeders charge more then the registered
