Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / how long till she has her puppies when her "plug" has gone?
- By fonzi_lady [gb] Date 14.01.06 09:49 UTC
Hiya i have a dog who has been in labour since friday afternoon.
I have rang the vet so many times i think she will kill me,

my bitch is panting, pacing, but also as i was keeping her active walking
around the house i noticed like a clear/white mucus was leaking from her
back, so i rang the vet and she said its what they call the plug, this usully
happens before the puppies are due.

how long do you think i have got to wait?
also my vet said that she can go a week over due date??
she looks like shes going to pop can this be true?

I THINK TONGHT IS THE NIGHT!
cheers :O)

It sounds as though she's in first-stage labour. This can last up to 48 hours, so don't exhaust her by making her walk round the house all the time. Leave that up to her to decide! Good luck!

ANY IDEA HOW LONG BEFORE HER WATERS GO?
AM OFF TO THE VET FOR HER TO HAVE A CHECK UP
AS SHE SEEMS VERY LOW.. AND WANTS TO EAT EVERYTHING
IN SIGHT.

TNX

keep in mind some girls dont stop eating ive bred 3 dofferent girls and the girl i just bred only stopped eating around 12 hours before first pup apeared and all my other girls ate u till about 2 to 1 1/2 hours before first pup appeared not eating isnt a reliable way to tell if in whelp.

some girls water sac burst a couple of hours before first pup and some right before the first pup appears and some times you wont even know it hapened no matter how close you are watching her

is this your first whelp when i did my first i drove my vet nuts in the last week of my girls pregnancy they were so relieved when she finally gave birth because i stopped calling and taking her up there

Yes my 1st.
I have to Take my dog the vet becoz also she had a really BAD
fight with my other dog on thursday and her face is still swollen
they cant give me tablets so they give her a injection to
calm swelling down.

This is why am more worried, because i dont want her to
be straining her self in labour with the trumour.

I popped local super market and my lad dog (not the stud)
burst though my kitchen door and attacked her or she burst though door..
,when i come home she was shaking in my wahsing basket, both
of the dogs faces were mangeled.
My bitchs face and mouth was very very swollen, its gone
down alot but i want to make sure all is fine.

my male dog is out of the house now so i think
she may perk up.

The vet said she doesnt think this is going to affect the labour
if anything INDUCE it,

il keep use posted!

this is why the male should be kept away from the female in the last 3-4 weeks of the pregnancy the female generally becomes rotective of any area in which she may decide to whelp or her pus may go and so she would have more than likely bailed the male up when he came inside. There are exceptions to this some girls dont mind the male being around but when you arnt sure because it is your first the only way to be safe is keep him away. I hope your girl is ok and i would keep a close eye on her some girls can halt their whelp because they dont feel safe so she may have to be induced i would make sure your dates a completely correct and if she starts to go too far over i would take her to be induced.

:confused:i have just taken her the vet, and they gave her a needle to induce her, and if she doesnt go before tomorrow morning they are going to give her a c section, as the vet said shes very big and the pups are draining her, also i may have to hand rear the puppies as her milk is not in properly yet. So i have just got lactol and a hand rear kit. i hope all is well fingers crossed she goes today!

My bitch had no milk until first puppy was suckling so just because she has none now doesn't neccesarily mean that she wont get none.
Hope all goes well for your girl. :)
Fingers crossed :)

My girl had milk the day BEFORE she whelped, then after her c-section it dried up completely so I ended up hand rearing, so I don't think your vet can say she's not going to get any milk.

am a bit worried as shes due monday, but as i said earlier she had the clear type mucus, now this morning, she went toilet and i spotted another ball of mucus.

i wanted her to go naturally, but the vet said shes very big. think i should wait and see or go ahead with the c seaction??

My bitches have the clear mucus throughout their pregnancy, I found it does increse slightly when the puppies are due.

I agree, all my girls have a heavy clear mucus discharge in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy, this isn't the plug going though, it's perfectly normal.

use ppl have been so helpful, i think am going to change my vet, as i spoke to her and
she told me on thursday night that the mucus was a sign of labour.

i am also very reluctant about this c section.

i think av got my bitch more worked up now with me worrying,
so am just going to see what happens.
got appointment 2moz to see whats going on.

thank you again ;)

my bitch started to have a clear dicharge about 4 days before she went into labour it just so happened i first noticed it on a trip to the vets to have a broken tooth looked at and the vet said it was normal and that she could start at any time and only to bring her back if nothing had happened at 65 days she ended up having the pups on day 63 and she went on to have 7 pups all a very good size
