How do you get a junior warrant. Do you
have to have so many wins before a certain age?
I am so new to showing, that I dont know all
the rules. I suppose the best thing to do is
to buy a kennel club book, but I thought I
would ask some of you experts.

Nutkin if you are new to showing I would not worry this time around it's very confusing. You win the points between 6 months & 18 months. 1 point for a class win at an open show if there are at least 3 in the class and 3 points at a championship show with the same 3 to class rule. Think it is 25 points you need to collect and 12 of them must be won at open shows. Think there must be at least 3 days between any points you win. Oh and the points can only be won in breed classes. Bet theres more, see what I mean unless you have lots of breed classes you will be running from one end of the country to the other in-order to find enough classes at open shows only to find that their are not enough in the class to get you the point anyway. If you own a popular breed and have a very good youngster you may find it easier. Not wanting to put you off but it's a lot for a new comer to manage. Jackie

My Champion bitch didn't manage to get her JW, as was two points short on the 10 points needed at Open shows, though had points to spare from champ shows. You also get a point for BOB if there aren't enough dogs in your class, but there still have to be 3 dogs to qualify. The chance of a baby going over an adult for BOB are less likely anyway. At one show I was best bitch (beating around 11 other bitches)and RBOB, (there was only one dog who went BOB),won 6 classes altogether, with the variety classes having lots of exhibits, but as the breed classes I won (two) only had two exzhibits, got no points!

Hi Nutkin, I managed to get enough points last year for my young dog (only my 2nd show dog) to be awarded his JW, it was difficult but there was the foot and mouth problem at the time. I did not have a clue in the begining but after he won his second champ show first I got a form from the Kennel Club stand at the show and was given the information from the staff on the stand. Its all according on the breed you have and the number of breed classes you can cram in! Yes I had to do alot of miles in the end but it was worth it.If you get off to a good start with your showing I say 'go for it' and good luck.

Apart from a stud number, is it realy worth all the effort you and your pup had to put in. Don't get me wrong, very well done, but is it worth the expence and strain when, if he is that good, you will probable make him up anyway. Since the JW system changed only one pup in my breed has made it to JW, because we don't have enough classes and if you can't enter other dogs you own yourself into classes you don't have a chance. The pup that did do it is very nice and deserved the award but I don't think the owner will be trying again. We all used to have a go when it was the old system, just for fun. Ja:)kie

Hi Ja:)kie
I'm with you on this, I wasn't absolutely sure about the points in the Ch/Open show split.
I would definately struggle to find Open show classes for my breed to collect the points as it is not a breed that is classified at Open level very often and also as we live in Devon it would mean tripping further away from home than the CH shows we already do! :(
Don't think I'll ever have a JW!
Nicky

Don't worry you will have plenty of good company in that respect! :D

Hi nicky, I have only ever once got a JW, and that was a few years ago when it was a bit easier. Had a dog puppy I bred returned to me as being " not show quality" at 14 weeks old!!!! Started showing him at 71/2 months, JW achieved at 101/2 months. Wasnt overshown, just one show each weekend, but the timing was perfect for summer open and champ shows. He was BP at East of England, Windsor, and Club show. Three novice class wins at champ level, three BPIS at open level. LOL then the original owners wanted him back, dont think so!!!! Very sadly , he died at 18 months from bloat.

Thanks to your all for your comments.
Is it every open show that points could be awarded,
or just certain shows??
How do you know if you have been awarded points
as my one bitch is 18 months (which is too late), however
she won best puppy, and I did not know she should of
had any points.
One other point, my dog won second at a minor puppy
champioship show, I was told he was qualified for crufts
now. If this is the case, do we just book up at the correct
time. Do they give you anything to say that he is crufts
qualified?
I know this all sounds really thick, but as I said I just do not
know the rules and regulations.
Many thanks in advance

Hi Nutkin, you can win a point at any open show that has classes for your breed as long as there is 3 dogs in the class you win. You have to keep a record of the points yourself on a form you can get from the KC. Don't think you get anything for BPIB. Yes if your pup won a 2nd in a championship show in a breed class and your pup is not Import Reg. you have qualified for Crufts. You will not get anything to say you have but when you fill in the form in the schedual for Crufts you have to put which show and which class you qualified in and what the award was, in your case 2nd minor puppy. Hi,
I have a gundog breed that is rarely scheduled at open shows and I live in Scotland too which has even less open shows with classes for the breed.
I was lucky I got all Mia's points for her JW by the time she was 15 months old because I entered more than one class where classes were on offer and she luckily won them all. Living in Scotland means I cannot campaign her as much as I would like due to finances and travelling or I could have done more. At a few shows, there was the required amount entered in the classes just they didn't bother turning up!!! That's infuriating....... Plus the 3 day clause, one weekend she won 5 classes over 2 days but I could only claim points from one day!!!! :( Not fair to lesser breeds.
