Kennel cough is always the first assumption and a lot of times this comes from the vets as well. The fact that he hasn't brought this up kinds of rules it out in his head.
My dog used to cough in the morning but only then. I eventually put it down to the fact the heating came on early and she got too warm and dry. As soon as I switched the heating off it disappeared. Speak to the vet again if it continues and continue to soak the dry food. I still with both my dogs and they are now adults. Most dry food doubles or triples it size when liquid is added. Be aware of that.

hi

My pup was diagnosed with kennel cough a few days ago.  The coughing sounds like honking and as if theyre chocking on something.  She was actually coughing when the vet examined her.  Her temperature was fine and chest was clear.  Im glad she was coughing as she had no other symptoms and meant we got our anitbiotics quickley.  After 3 days of the treatment her coughing has now stopped.  Is it common this time of year??

Just to add, if not treated quickly it can cause other problems.  I would want a second opinion I think because your not meant to mix with other dogs if they have it.  My pup coughed when she woke up and it was made worse when playing.  Hope yours is ok

my pup also coughed up white mucus (only twice) as she wasnt ill with it I still took her out, whilst avoiding dogs.  When theyre well its hard, they still expect a walk:cool:  my antibiotics were also for a week, half a tablet once a day.  She didnt get worse, she got much better within 3 days but I think it depends at what stage they are diagnosed.  She will be fine - we worry sooo much when they are pups, my little girl is 19 weeks.  I assume yours is younger, as my vet said it was ok to take her out but not to mix with dogs for 10 days.  Best wished Istevensx

kennel cough is air bourn so the dogs do not have to be in contact with  others to get it,she should say indoor away from others dog up to 14 to 21 days just going out in the garden,

this is the time of year to get kc from sept to march,it a bit us having flu,and yes they can get scondary infection with kc,too
