Topic Dog Boards / Health / pup with smelly breath
- By luvhandles Date 11.01.06 10:17 UTC
Hi,

My Cavalier pup is now 20 weeks old and has lost 2 back molars in the past 2 days. I've noticed that his breath is a bit smelly at the moment. Is this normal?

thanks

i bought a cocker spaniel from the rspca resue centre who was 7 years old
STINKY STINKY BREATH!!! (nearly renamed him stinky!
took him to the vet a week later as also he wasn't picking up toys in his mouth and didn't appear to be eating normally
Vet diagnosed 2 back rotten teeth needing to be removed, gingivitis and a full teeth descale needed £355 (which i asked the rspca to pay)
They state they sell only heathly animals!

Don't worry too much yet. When mine was a pup he had the same problem. It was the baby teeth that were smelly !. I guess the teeth and surrounding tissue goes a bit 'off' before the new teeth pop through. Not being funny, try smelling the lost teeth (the red manky end !) and you might find that they are horrible.
Give him something to chew as it will help the new teeth come through.
