Topic Dog Boards / General / poor staff bitch

i got a call off an anxious lady informing me that she thinks her staffie bitch is in pup and is firstly worried about the cost, she queried aborting them, so i asked what has happened in past?
She informed me that she hasnt enough money to spey the bitch and so she has already had 2 litters by mistake- both needed c sections, for which she informed she has a friend that 'helps' her out financially.
I went on to explain the abortion injection and estimated the cost for the injections which came to half the cost of a spey!- so suggested getting her speyed afterwards- oh no, not enough money......
Any way after this she revealed that the last litter had only 2 pups and one died- she kept him and so this is the father to the present litter!
I was getting a bit annoyed as she seemed to not really care- she wanted the injection so i said the quicker the better really, she explained she couldnt until friday- payday, and then explained its going to be tough to get to vets as she's at work then!!
It really upset me as she obviously had not much regard for her dogs and the unborn pups, i wonder how many people there are like this.
The vet spoke to her but got too frustrated with her as she had no idea when she was mated etc etc, totally unhelpful and not willing to really think about it! aarrgh...

sorry just a bit of a rant as you try to help how you can...

I think the injection is no more than £25, but to be honest I feel it would probably be a waste of money as the bitch would probably get caught again. The classic is the C sections would have cost more than the speying, I feel we have this terrible delima here, as speying is not cheap for those without a good income it probably feels like a lot of money, hence their bitches often get impregnated and these are the people becoming breeders!!!!  It's catch 22 isn't it?

I wonder whether her vet would allow a 6-12 months payment scheme for her, I wish more vets would be open to this suggestion or even have it as a natural option, it would probably save a lot of unsavoury litters coming about, and cut down on the dogs ending up in rescue centres. :-(  In answer to your question, I think there are a lot of people like this!!!
