There was though - The Matrix.  Love the film and watched it about 3 times but still don't get it.  If their bodies aren't real when they are in the pretend real world, how come they die when they get shot?  In "reality" they are plugged into sockets aren't they? or are they?

whatever trauma their bodies went through in the matrix the mind believed it was true so the bodied suffered as if it had of happened. sorry had to try and explain coz i love this film too!

Humans are bred to feed the matrix, is that right?  The humans' minds are being fed by the matrix to believe they are living "real" lives. If that is right how did Neo escape from the matrix?  In the beginning he is receiving messages through his computer, so Morph has infiltrated the matrix system to feed Neo's mind with "proper real thoughts".  I think I'm getting there actually but I'm still confused as to how they get shot.  What is the matrix doing then?  Is Neo outwitting the Matrix's thought processes?  This would mean that in reality when they get plugged in to their "dentist chair" they are plugging themselves back into the Matrix?  Flipping 'eck, I need a coffee :D

lol now your making me question my understanding! neo escaped from the matrix by choosing the correct pill. i think this kind of creates a loop in the matrix system or a virus which stops the big tubey thing connected to his head from transmitting info into his brain (either that or makes his body reject the info from the effects of the pill that his 'real' brain will believe are true), so as he takes the tablet his matrix world is no longer there and his senses become real (in the sense of the real world). the more neo learns the matrix's code and believes that he is stronger and can beat it he will, thats why he can stop bullets, through believing he can stop them and seeing and reading the code he can change the program. If he gets shot in the matrix his brain will shut down and die just as it would in real life. when he is in the matrix by the tubey thing attacthed to his head his brain is feeling senses and if he say got punched in the stomach his muscles would react thru being hit. in the real world the reaction of his muscles and nerves etc will still take affect because his brain believes this to be true (while he was in the matrix) and his muscles have behaved in the way they would if it had of been true. and yes they plug them selves back into the matrix in a 'safe' way in as such they have an operater reading the program and creating an exit for them ( i look at it like the phone being a modem). my brain hurts now lol, loved it when i first saw it but the kids got the ps2 game and its great!

Thanks, I'll mull that over.  I'm still not sure about the beginning.  How does Morpheous (sp?) get him from the "pretend real world" to the point just before he takes the pill.  Neo doesn't know about the matrix at that point does he? So how does he become "unplugged" from the matrix when he still doesn't know he is matrix food etc?

I've seen the first one about 3 times as well, takes  about TOO much concetrating to udnerstand for my liking so i never bothered with the others. :)

never watched them myself ..not my kinda film...would only annoy hubby anyway ..
