Hi all,

My girls are going into boarding kennels for 2 or 3 nights in a couple of weeks for the first time. They are aged 4 and 1 and I'm a bit worried about them (I'd be almost as worried if the children were going instead! :)). Has anyone else had a similar experience who could calm my nerves?

Dont worry Paula,
I was the same when mine first went into the kennels, I know from experience now that they are well looked after now when I mention the ladies name they get all excited because they too are going on their holidays!
They are glad to see us when we get back but also make a fuss of the owner of the kennels as well to say goodbye.
Try not to worry first time leaving them is always the worse but it will get easier when you get back and see
that they have been well looked after.

Thanks LongDog,

I'm sure they will be OK, it's just that I'm not sure I will! :)
Anyway, it's only a couple of days. The poor things, they've just been in to be bathed and trimmed (which they hate), and on Wednesday they're having they're boosters and on Saturday Tess (the younger one) is entered in Poynton Show - perhaps by next week they'll be glad to get away for a break LOL :)

If you tell the owner of the boarding kennels how you feel, and that it is the first time they have been in kennels I am sure she will not mind you phoning mid-week to see how they are, just for your own peace of mind.
Im sure they will be just fine try not to worry and enjoy your holiday!!!

The owner of the kennels we use always suggests taking a smelly old T-shirt (start sleeping in it now) and taking some of their toys, so that they have familiar things with them.

And don't worry. Due to circumstances, I left the TH in kennels (sharing a run with the grumpy collie) when she was 15 weeks old and she was just fine.

Think how pleased they'll be to see you!

Have you tried asking the breeder if he/she could take the puppy while you are away?

I'm glad it's not only me who suffers from separation anxiety! :D

Have you asked any doggy friends for recommendations? That's how I found the kennels my girls are going to.

Paula

PS Lynne, is your pup a goldie, by any chance? Are you planning on showing?
