Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Whelping in quarentine

Hi has anyone heard about someone bringing dogs in whelp into the country so that they can have puppies whilst in quarentine ? I heard that they where Spanish water dogs. and that one of the Bitches had had pups only six months prior, do people do this to get around the kennel club registration rules. It surely must be unethical.especially with the testing that most clubs require you to carry out before breeding a bitch in this country. Does onyone know anymore about this ?

Before the pet passport came in to force I know several litters who were born in quarantine.  Certainly none of them was done so as to avoid health testing!  All dogs and bitches involved had full tests in the country of origin.  Since Pet PAssports I have heard of one or two, not in my breeds and not personally known to me, who have had litters in quarantine, from "on Loan" bitches, who are then returned to country of origin.  Still full health tests carried out.  The quarantine kennels who agree to whelp bitches know give them seperate quarters.  You usually whelp the bitch yourself, so you can be with her 24/7 through the birth, but of course you cant be there for the whoel 2/3 weeks after pups are born, like at home.

If you take a bitch into another country that you can return on pets passport, do you know if you have to declare your bitch was mated before coming back into the country ?
I wondered how that worked.

Declare it to whom?  Obviously you have to let the KC know, as they will need a certified copy of the dogs pedigree to register the litter (if one arrives) but apart from that, there is no-one else to declare it too.
