I had a bit of a panic last night. Ruby usually has her last meal about
8.30 and when I went to feed her there was none left and the bag I though I had in the stock cupboard was not there!!!
Good old 24 hr Tesco :)
Graeme went off to tesco to pick up some food, but they did not have her usual brand and the only food for pups they had was Bakers Complete Beef, Rice
and Vegetable for Puppies.
He got it and we gave it to her. I have never seen her eat like that
and want more! She came to us weaned on Beta Puppy and we have kept her on it but although she has always eaten it, she was more of a picker.
Finally getting to the point ;) What do you all think of Bakers Complete?
Is it a good food and also for the Boxer people, you have recommended that
Boxers can do better with a wheat free diet, is this food suitable!!

Hi Ali.
Bakers complete is full of colourings and additives, I would avoid it, if you have to feed aprocessed food try Burns, it's about the best i think.

Holly used to be fed on Bakers and she enjoyed it. Her coat looked lovely and she was as bright as a button.

I changed her onto Nutro though as I wasn't happy with happy with the ammount of additives and colourings in Bakers. Since Holly has been on Nutro she's a lot calmer and a lot less skittish.

I've just picked up on this thread and was very interested in the comments about Bakers, Buffy too really likes this but prefers and usually eats Winalot Complete. What do you think of Winalot? I'm going to start weaning the puppies soon and wondered what you recommend, I was intending to use Hills Science Diet as that was what Buffy was on when we got her and what her breeder used. Is it generally the more expensive the better? We kept Buffy on Hills for over a year but always had to mix it with tuna to get her to eat it, she prefers the cheaper brands!

Hi Jane.
Look at the ingredients on your dogs food, whatever is first, is in greatest quantity. Bakers complete = CEREALS. dogs are MEAT eaters, why feed them on cereal? can't do them much good can it? Winalot complete is just as multi-coloured as Bakers and contains all the same type of additives, if you MUST feed dehydrated, processed food try Burns, it is IMO the best.

Well i didnt touch wood. She has gone loopy Loopier than normal, She sounded like a Tazmanian Devil :D and I know Boxers are bouncy dogs but she was hopping :o
I have learnt my lesson, always keep spare sacks of food in:)

a lot of these brands that arte primarily aimed at supermarket shoppers are designed to appeal to the human. Hence the pretty shapes and colours, none of which the dog needs. My main worry is the amount of colouring, and the amount of corn syrup used in the moist chunks.

I use another semi moist so called food, called Highlife as treats! It looks like freeflow mince, and has that processed plastic like texture. The dogs go mad for it, and of course being such tiny pieces the size of mince, little harm is done. When I read th4e ingredients, the second highest is High fructose corn syrup. It literally appeals to the dogs sweet tooth. we know what harm sugar can do to teeth! This food is recomended as a complete food, one sachet equivalent to a can of food. I would think in a very short time the dogs teeth would be ruined if fed this as a staple!

Ali, don't know about Bakers, but pups - including some very old "pups":-) - usually love anything that is different - for about a week. Then the 'new' food gets boring, and they would prefer something else. In my experience they usually like cheap n'cheerful better than the stuff you actually want them to eat too!
