Hi all and a happy new year in advance. Just a quick post re my cavs food. We are now struggling to get AG (we changed from burns as the nearest burns stockist is 30 mins away) as we have to take a 40 min car journey to a dogs home and they don't stock the orginal only the classic version and only do uptp 7kg bags.

There is also the problem of wanting to bring back half the dogs each time and 1 week before xmas found myself having a tantrum when my other half said I couldn't have the 15 wk olg gs cross!!

So my alternative is to either buy online (but I'm never around to sign for it) or to change. I can get both nutro and JWB (and walfol) both where i live and work at independant pet shops. Any ideas on which to go for??? All opinions welcome especially from other cav owners.

Thanks and happy new year

Hi,
Happy new year to you too! I own a 18 week old cav pup and after a dodgy start with digestion problems, he's now very settled and very doing well on JWB - he loves the food, poo's are firm and his coat is beautiful and shiny......all in all, I don't have a bad word to say about it. (By the way, I feed the turkey and rice flavour)

I remember your posts, I'm glad to hear that you're all sorted with him now. I have some samples of duck, turkey and lamb so I'll give them a choice. One of mine will eat anything but the other is a bit fussy.

They do have the jwb treats which they love. Have you tried the mini jacks their fantastic!!!

Have you tried asking any local feed merchants to order in something for you?
Funnily enough my mum just suggested that so i'm going to pop in and ask today. thanks and happy new year. :)

Nutro without a doubt.
Hi Christine and happy new year. Can i ask why Nutro and what flavors do you recomend?
Hi mollymoto. I've been feeding JWB to my flatcoats for nearly 5 years and they are thriving on it. Turkey & rice seems to suit them the best. Happy new year everyone! :)
Thanks hopevalley. JWB certainaly gets good write up here I just wondered how they compared. The eldest wasn't so keen on the duck about a year ago but she had been poorly so this could have effected her. They certainaly love the jwb treats. They had a jwb stocking for xmas and now the little runs in for a treat and pegs it out again before you can shut the door so you have to give her another one .... and they say dogs aren't that clever!!
Happy new year
My oldest Flatcoat has had a problem with pancreatitis for the last 5 years, which is why he's on JWB. He has nothing but JWB and Crackerjacks. He looks fantastic on it and it keeps him healthy and out of the vets! :)

I raised my 2nd Munster litter on Nutro from conception to leaving home & I was so impressed with the condition of the pups when they were born, their body & bone and just their general well being. 3rd litter I just couldn't get them to take it really and they didn't carry the condition of the 2nd even though it was a repeat mating!
I tend to go for the Chicken & rice varieties.

Daft question but was is Nutro? Not a food I'm familiar with :)
Oh gosh. Whats a girl to do with all these choices. I'll have to toss a coin i think. Thanks for the info.

Switched my Cavs onto JWB fish and rice a few months back and it seems to be agreeing with them. If one of yours has a dodgy tummy the duck and rice might be too rich - my friend had a horrible night after feeding that to her lot!! :-(
Hi LucyD. Can i ask what you fed them before? Purely out of curiosity really.
Spoke to 3 petshops that stock both and they all said Nutro. I asked one why and he said that JWB (now owned by mars) is going to be changing the food and aiming it at supermarkets and bringing the cost down.

Hadn't realised they could do that although I am blonde!!!!! But in the mean time have discovered that Waitrose in town stock 2.5kg bags of AG so might not change although doesn't work out very cost effective.
Mollymoto - I wouldn't take one person's word, who works in a petshop, for something like that. Believe me, if you'd heard some of the TERRIBLE advice pet shop people give out on every subject, from behaviour advice, to de-fleaing, you'd think twice before going that way.
Yes, JWB is owned by Mars now (recent change), but I asked them directly if this would lead to any changes in the food and they have assured me not. Now, I know that might not be unbiassed info, seeing as it came from them direct, but I would definitely wait - if they change any ingredients it would be reflected on the ingredients list. If they reduce the price substantially, again you will know about it. Don't just jump to a conclusion based on what one guy in a pet shop said.
Personally I would choose JWB over Nutro every time.

Personally I would recommend Nutro over anything else! My dogs look FANTASTIC on it! Best food I have ever fed dogs and I've been feeding dogs for 30 years. I trust their content 100%, but like everything on here, there will be 'fors' and 'against'! All the best, Dawn

Have Nutro got a website and if so could you post the link pleasies :)
thanks newfiedreams. I'll contacted them re a sample so ultimately the dogs will eventually get the choice. :)
Jwb has been owened by mars for over 12mths the price has dropped ,thier web site has become more complex (in line with peddigres web site) the food is produced in the same plant as royal cannine ,so they can no longer be classed as independent and they are not BUAV approved, having said all that their iingredeants are still good appart from the heavy use of salt however the fact that mars are not the most ethical of companies would put me off-Jo
Was just looking at the *nutro choice adult mantenance* & its description & key features & benefits bit it says *special blend of dried chicken, lamb...etc etc but when I looked at list of ingredients can`t see any lamb mentioned

Shouldn`t lamb be in the ingredients or am I reading it all wrong & its mentioned somewhere else ?
I definately wouldn't go on one persons advice from apet shops, hence the post as I wanted actual owners experiences. There were infact 3 shops that when i asked which they recommended they all said Nutro without a doubt. The price is the same in 2 of them, one of which the manager is a trained nutrition person (alhtough it doesn't say whether its dogs or humans LOL). I'm just having a bit of a dilema as Molly gets upset tums really easy. Thanks for the advice and I'm still not sure. This is harder than picking new boots!!! :)

Why not phone Nutro & speak to one of their advisors to see if they will send you out some samples?
