Can anyone tell me if they have problems with Galvanised Steel Trays for cages?

I bought a cage with one of these trays in the summer for my Lab puppy and now I have problems with, black/grey rust/dirt coming from it on to my dog.

I wipe the tray everyday but it's not helping, the dog gets covered in this stuff and she looks terrible it does come off with a bath but she is such a lump its hard work:eek: and there is the health issues from this stuff.

I can't remember the make of the cage when I bought it, and it as no trade mark on it.

If anyone can recommend a good tray I could buy that would be great I have to have a metal tray as she is a chewer:rolleyes:

Many thanks

I have problems with this too....not so much on the black girls, but on the yellows, it turns their coat a greyish colour...also the film on the galvanise is very greasy and leaves their coats very tacky.....I got some old sheets, cut to size, seamed up 3 sides and basically made a casing....once the vet bed is on top it works....also helps stop the bedding rucking up

I put a piece of carpet cut to size for her in the cage which did stop the dirty coat (she's Yellow) problem but then I had another problem with her chewing it when I had to pop out or at night or even in front of me:mad:.

It was getting to the point that she was passing it at the other end and there was a lot, and I was worried that this would cause her to get a blockage so I had to throw it out, no matter what I said or did as soon as my back was turn she would be at it again her nick name is one cell LOL.

The carpet was the thick hessian backed type not the rubber backed kind.

She is a chewer everything and anything if you don't watch her:rolleyes:

I was hoping someone could recommend a metal tray that won't rust or cause this problem, I don't think a plastic bottom would be any good as she will chew this am sure:mad:

She is not in the cage all the time but as I said when I need to pop out or at night I don't trust her to leave things alone I believe prevention is better then the cure.
