Hiya,

Your best bet would be to go back onto the WT page, and leave a message asking for help in your area. We are a fairly small group of people but there is normally someone that can help or at least get you started.  Are you a novice?, if so, there are some pretty good beginner training days which can give you a good starting point. Unfortunately I'm not in your area, but i really hope you find someone to train with, Working Trials is a brilliant dog sport and the people are realy friendly. Please feel free to PM me if you need any more help.

Good luck

Ali :)

Tohme on this board is into working trials, I believe.  Maybe Tohme will see this.

Or you could send a Message.

I have never done working trials before but have done obediece/agility. Looking for something different with a bit of everything that the dogs & myself will enjoy.

Your nearest societies would be Lincs and Leamington, the latter hold regular training sessions.

I would suggest that you go and watch a Championship Working Trial either PD or TD handlers to get an idea of the requirements and standards, the nearest one to you is probably Stamford but that is not until July but there is one in Dunholm Lincs in March.

Turn up and you will find that everyone is very friendly and most competitors will not mind you watching them track if you ask first and the Control and Agility can be watched by anyone.

There is a taster workshop on tracking at the Learning About Dogs Centre on Jan 15 and some tracking days in March, April, May and June if that helps.

ps don;t take a dog onto the field though.

Most groups are self help ones and you may find it more useful to go to a 1:1 trainer, the best ones near you are around the Notts area

youll do it!!!. will that be the first WT CH in your breed?
- By Moonmaiden Date 05.01.06 21:49 UTC
The first Weim WT Ch was WT Ch Ritsons Constellation CD ex UD ex WD ex TD ex owned/handled by Jenny Wilson. He gained his title in 1988 if memory serves me right  might not have spelt the name right

Max (Ritisons Constellation) was indeed the first and to date only WT Ch in Weims.  There have been two other dogs with a ticket each, Jenny's Ritisons Rainbow Dust and another scot Jackie Johnston with Reeman Classic Image.

The last ticket won by a weimaraner was in 1993 and my bitch was the first Weim bitch and the first longhair to win a ticket in WT.

LOL T I was going to add that yours was prob the 1st longcoat but wans't sure which one you had got the CC with Was it a TD one ? They are by far the hardest to win & it's really competitive in TD(well it always used to be)

When I trained at Benfleet my BC dog fell in love with a Weim dog He could tell him apart from all the other weims that attended which he totally ignored.

I love the LC weims Best of luck for the other one

Terry Hadley made up another HPR I think a GSP which is probably the last HPR WT Ch. There have been a good few labs of course, but I think the HPR breeds are much more of a challeenge

Yes, it was TD, and the standard has really improved over the last 10 years particularly in the control section.  My bitch is not really into PD, (she might break a nail) :D hence why I obtained a GSD! :D

Terry made up a GWP from the Benreeda kennel which then went on to be made up in the show ring by the breeder.  Ann Collen has also made up a GWP  from the Braithwaite kennel into both an IKC and UK WT Ch in more recent timesand has got one ticket with her second one.

What makes HPRs excel in the nosework section is their downfall in the Control section when following a scent may prove more enticing than heelwork or sendaways therefore I would agree with you.  There are not that many HPRs in WT as if, like mine, they have been bred from working lines, you are constantly battling with their penchant for fur and feather! :D

Thanks for the good luck wishes, most appreciated.

LOL at least I knew Terry's was a GP Too many senior moments here :D as to breeds

The control work was what I had in mind as they can have very strong hunting drive for hunting having done WT & had a bird fly up in the middle of a SA I can imagine the result if my GSD had been a HPR :D

I'm glad to here there has een another HPR made up I must admit I like both the GSP & GWP as working dogs

I think TD has alwaays been tight at the top whereas PD has always had lower entries as many people don't like the protection side, but done correctly it does give you better control over the dog. Haven't seen much WT for a while & I would hope the protection work has improved as in the past there were too many dogs not fully under control & failing to come off. With the increase in Schutzhund I think there has been a rethink in the teaching of protection work.
