Hi, Im really hoping someone out there can give some advise/offer hope!! This morning my chihuahua bitch tripped and fell from the top to the bottom of the stairs, it was horrific to see! Even worse, I had her mated 2 weeks ago, and as im sure you can imagine I'm devastated.
After falling, she was understandbly shaken and upset...but not hurt, because 5 minutes later she was chasing 1 of her many  mice'! (not real mice!!) And now, some 30 minutes since it happened she appears to be perfectly normal.
The reason im writing is to ask has this happened to anyone else, what was the outcome, can i presume she is unlikely to have pups, is there anything I can do...etc etc.
I really would appreciate any replies - many thanks x

If she has conceived the whelps won't have implanted yet (according to "The Book of the Bitch" they float freely for 21 days) and are thought to be safe and unaffected by infection or trauma at this stage.

i had a girl once who was spooked by a very noisy motorbike (thumpster) and she bolted for the courtyard fence which had a small gap in it she got stuck right at the stomch area and she started throwing herself around and ended on her side stuck .
she was very rough with herself  i was sooo worried but she went on to have 6 healthy pups (she was 3 weeks preg at the time) i would just keep a close eye on her and keep treating her the same you know the usual vet checks to see if she is pregnant unless she has really hurt herself in which case take her to the vets

My girl was very ill at 2 weeks into her pregnancy luckily the pups were fine, but in her previous pregnancy at 5 weeks, my house was broken into, she ended up scaling a 7 foot high garage and falling off it.  Unfortunately later on in life 2 pups from that litter weren't so lucky   The peoples vets said that it was due to neurological damage whilst their mother was carrying them as the 5 week stage is when the neurological side is coming into being!

I'd make sure that maybe she can't get up the stairs whilst she's pregnant in case it happens again.

i agree with spanishwaterdog i would gate your stairs and when she needs to go up or down them carry her

Poor little thing, thank goodness she wasn't hurt. Sounds like the pups should be ok this early in her pregnancy, but I agree with the advice to get a stairgate to prevent a recurrence. :-)
