HAPPY NEW YEAR and good luck all you quitters,
i smoke, and thought about quitting, even  joining your,
merry band (knew i didnt have the will power).
but if any of you manage to quit. it might give me the
the incentive to try myself.

keep strong

mdacey, they have quit ;)

Perhaps you are not ready to give up yet.  You have to really want to do it.  Think about it tonight and decide in the morning if you want the same moral support.  It is nice to know that you are not the only one and that others are going through the same experience.  Think about it :)
- By Isabel Date 02.01.06 23:19 UTC
Come on Donna you can do better than that :) Don't you want to join the other girls and be the most attractive thing under the misstletoe this time next year :D  Attractive and richest!
- By mdacey [gb] Date 02.01.06 23:31 UTC
isabel  & cheryls will think about it,

((((( NOBODY PANIC!! ))))))

[I]Well after clicking on Active topics to see how the gang were doing in my absence..I go to page1...no smokers...I go to page2...nothing!!!.... finally page5 and your not there????...what happened the past 2 days??!! LOL I shall be lining you all up and smelling your fingers!!?? ;)

Glad I finally found you all and a resounding
(((Atta Girls!!!)))
to the giver upperers!! but also the Non smokers supporting what a sight for sore eyes that was to see you all helping out :)

Well... I think it may be cheating but Ive been in Hospital :(
typical!!!...so enforced No Smoking for me! but thankfully really didnt feel like smoking anyway!

However now Im home...:(.... Im ashamed to say I have attempted to have one (WHY???)... luckily had such dizziness I put it out after 3 attempted puffs :( so not very impressed with myself, especially as a hospital stay had, I thought, firmly reminded me of the value of a healthy life!!

so Tommorrow I guess is really my first official day now, as the the past week doesnt really count :(

But wow well done everyone else!!!!! :D (where's Waffy tho'?? Private waffy report to the Parade ground!!!!)

Think we're due a role call!!!..how's everyone doing?????

Well i am finding it very hard, even tho i only smoked 15 before. I havnt quit fully, im kind of weaning myself off, since 1st January ive been having 5 a day and today im gonna have 3, im using the inhalator inbetween. Today is gonna be a real test as im back at work and am allowed to smoke in the office and my boss who sits opposite to me smokes too! Im already feeling frustrated, its sooo hard but im determined to do it.
- By Isabel Date 03.01.06 09:36 UTC
I think it's time you have a little talk with your boss about your health and safety.  He/She needs to be considering a change anyway as I suspect smoking in all work places will be banned in the next couple of years anyway.  Why not try and get them on board for giving up too :)
- By spiritulist [gb] Date 05.01.06 16:44 UTC
Have not smoked since the 17th(sore throat) then 3 on New Years Eve!!!!!!!! Still, none since then and feeling good, so it looks like I'm still here too.
- By CherylS Date 02.01.06 22:55 UTC
Jollyjem - yesterday was a glitch.  Don't feel bad because you haven't given in to giving in.  You are back on ladder as you so rightly say.  Well done :D
- By Isabel Date 02.01.06 23:11 UTC
It's not always achieved in a straight upwards line but remembering that feeling of disappointment could be put to your advantage!  It's going to make you all the more determined isn't it Jollyjem :)
- By CherylS Date 02.01.06 22:52 UTC

- By Daisy [gb] Date 03.01.06 17:39 UTC
Well done, girls - keep it up :) I've already posted on the other post about 'dieting'. My target is to be slimmer by May 2nd which is my 25th wedding anniversary :) Hopefully we'll do something special and I'll enjoy buying a new outfit, rather than just wearing something old because I hate buying clothes for my cuddly figure :)

Daisy
- By justlou Date 03.01.06 17:50 UTC
You can do it Daisy :-) We all have faith in you :-D Good Luck, keep us posted on your progress please :-)
- By dippydog [gb] Date 03.01.06 22:05 UTC
Oh! That programme was awful, some bits I just couldn't watch. Definitely don't want a fag after that, what did any one else think? Am talking about Cold Turkey on channel 4.
- By justlou Date 03.01.06 22:10 UTC
I never got to watch it :-( I was on here and hubby's on his xbox....so i set the sky plus box to record it, and the recording failed  Was the programme any good?
- By abbymum [gb] Date 03.01.06 22:11 UTC
Did anyone else think that Tara was acting like a child and didnt really want to quit? Some of the things on there were horrible.

- By Boxer Mum Date 03.01.06 22:12 UTC
Good on you dippydog - if it's any consellation today has been my first day on the dreaded diet and boy is it tough, my subconcious (sp) is playing tricks on me at the moment and I keep smelling chocolate :(
- By justlou Date 03.01.06 22:22 UTC
Good Luck Tara :-) I've just had a square of chocolate....and now i feel really guilty lol :-D
- By Balibee Date 03.01.06 22:26 UTC

> I've just had a square of chocolate....and now i feel really guilty lol

Baaaaaaaaaaaaad Kerry :D

Only Jestin' :D

Actually I was just talking to someone about Iced Gems!  Can recommend them to anyone.  Take ages to eat (I eat the biscuit then let the sugar melt :D ) are very low points (only 1 & 1/2 per bag, I know they are not exactly nutritious  but a girls gotta do....)  and will take your mind off the ciggies! :D
- By Boxer Mum Date 03.01.06 22:28 UTC Edited 03.01.06 22:30 UTC
Thanks justlou - was it really nice chocolate ? :)

I just realised why I can smell chocolate everywhere - it's the dogs yoghurt drops, the kids left them on the shelf above the radiator that is now on and the heat is slowly warming them up   Boy do they smell good !

Have you had any more thoughts on what you're going to treat yourself to yet ?  If it's a box of thorntons chocolates can you send me the contents card please :D
- By dippydog [gb] Date 03.01.06 22:33 UTC
Hi justlou,
how are  you today? Cold Turkey was good , in that it told, and showed some really shocking things, ie , a smokers lung, all black with a tumour in it. Had to close my eyes for bits of it. Tara was like a kid, she really was trying to stay in denial . Thought she was gonna flip when they put the aging make up on her. Wasn't too shocked at the end of the programme to find out she'd had a fag . Maybe though seeing the programme will get  her ready to quit for real next time. Sophie def, put more effort into the whole thing and obviously the fertility thing was very important to her.
- By justlou Date 03.01.06 22:49 UTC
LOL @ You lot :-D I dont normally eat chocolate, but tonight i was craving badly.

I have no idea what i'm gonna spend my cash on, I did want to spend it on a new man, but hubby said NO :-D Spoil sport

I'll probley wait until the kids go back to school, and go and have a look around the shops :-D by then i'll have a bit more saved.

I can't believe i missed that programme, i've been looking forward to watching it :-(
- By Isabel Date 03.01.06 23:15 UTC Edited 03.01.06 23:18 UTC
Oh that reminds me, less smear tests!  The HPV that produces abnormal smears meaning you have to go back for more frequent smear tests and possibly treatment and possible, in the long term, cancer  can be defeated by your own bodies defence mechanisms when you don't smoke but that ability is greatly impaired when you do.  So, surely having to pop your legs in stirrups is reason alone to give up  :p

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.01.06 23:33 UTC
Stirrups for a smear test? Good grief! No, simply put the soles of your feet together and relax your legs! ;) :D
- By Isabel Date 03.01.06 23:34 UTC Edited 03.01.06 23:37 UTC
It's stirrups for colposcopy and that where they will end up :)
No lack of references here ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.01.06 23:40 UTC
Thank heavens I've missed that particular pleasure in all these years!
- By Isabel Date 03.01.06 23:42 UTC
Me too.  Here's to forever just putting the feet together and relaxing

Hello , where are you all? Feeling a bit lonely here at the moment, and had a few really horrible moments today. Got very tearful seeing an old man and his seeing dog. Then kept watching any one I saw with a fag, felt like a right weirdo, esp. as I was manicly chewing gum at the time. My jaw is sore today from so much manic chewing.  Where and how are Abbymum, Jollyjem, and Justlou, and the rest of you? Hope you are all doing well with the Battle of the Weed, I just feel very pathetic this evening, but tomorrow is another day. Any feed back very welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . I Don't Want To Smoke Ever Again, this is my mantra.
- By abbymum [gb] Date 04.01.06 21:10 UTC
I am using the patches and they arent working, Im crabby and miserable, i have now resorted to doing 30 squats every time I think of lighting up(i will have great legs and bum when I am finished). I suppose it doesnt help that my baby started full time school today and about six people asked me if I was going to have another baby now i had all day to myself, hello i have a job and a dog and dont need another baby to complete me. I wasnt feeling like myself and said that I couldnt have another baby as I was too busy working to support all those lazy b*t*hs who could be bothered to get a job:eek:. Yes I am making myself very popular:rolleyes:
The only people who dont seem to be annoying me is the kids they have been great telling me how proud of me they are and they want to help make sure I dont start again.
Sorry for the rant.
Mary aka miserable old bag

Keep it up, girls :) You know it will be worth it in the end :)

- By dippydog [gb] Date 04.01.06 21:31 UTC
Thanks for the reply abbymum,
good to hear I'm not the only one turning into a smokeless dragon. Maybe I should try the squats, could be amusing for onlookers when i'm walking down the high street. lol. Great that you've got the support of your kids. Is this the first time you've stopped? The way I feel today , this is the first and last time I stop smoking. Couldn't bear to put myself through this again. Even the bl+++y pc. isn't working for me this evening. Am taking every thing far too personal, it's pathetic that a substance can do this to people. Grrrrrrr! Rant over, for now!!!!
Good Luck tomorrow DD.
- By CherylS Date 04.01.06 21:42 UTC
Keep it up there, you non-smokers you :D
- By justlou Date 04.01.06 21:47 UTC
Good Luck everyone :-) I'm still here battling on, i was very tearful yesturday.....but i did feel a little better today, I just feel so edgy all the time :-( We will get there, i'm using the inhalor which works :-) Day 5 tomorrow  hasn't time flown :-D Everytime i fancy a ciggie i do some exercise :-D
- By Boxer Mum Date 04.01.06 21:50 UTC
Well done girls :D :D :D   Big congratulatory {{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}} to you all

- By abbymum [gb] Date 04.01.06 22:05 UTC
No its not the first time for me, I tried the patches before and it wasnt hard at all, I started again because I like smoking and wasnt ready to quit, now i am I dont want to start again as today Matthew told me he worried that if I carried on smoking that I would die.
I have made my list of reasons to stop smoking and have put them up where I have a constant reminder, not that it helping at the moment nothing is helping I have turned into the she devil, Abby thinks its great with the extra walks shes getting and all I want to do is eat.
Sorry in advance if I bite someones head off I dont really mean it and hopefully I will be returning to normal(as i can be) soon.

I keep looking on the internet....at pictures of smokers lungs :-( there yuk, it's enough to turn any smoker off :-D

I'm the same, i just want to keep eating......but as i've said before, i will sort out my weight once i'm clean :-)

Edited to say: I tried the patches before and they gave me nightmares, made me feel sick all the time......and my arm or wherever i put them itched like crazy, i've also had the chewing gum...but because i need a few fillings  it hurts to chew......if you are really struggling, get the inhalor it really does work :-D
- By Balibee Date 05.01.06 16:05 UTC
Keep going girlies :D

Many moons ago and just 3 months after I gave up smoking I got a job at a large Company that gave new staff medical checkups.  he .  They're business also involves X-ray equipment and so part of the medical was an X-ray.  When I saw the X-ray of my chest my stomach lurched because my lungs showed black marks on them.  I really thought I had something terrible but the doctor wasn't concerned.  Even though I had smoked I was fit and healthy and regularly jogged so it was a shock to see the X-ray.  Looking at pictures of other people's insides doesn't always register but I think you really have to acknowledge that regardless of how well you feel the pictures you see of the inside of smokers' lungs could be the pictures of any smoker's lungs.

You are doing really well.  Doesn't matter if you are grumpy in the extreme, that will all fade away once your body gets used to not getting it's  'fix' :)
