contact your breeder they might take you under there wing if they show :-)

The Kennel Club can help you with the details of your nearest Ringcraft club if you telephone 0870 6066750.

Find a local ring craft class where you can learn how to show and your dog can learn what is expected.I would also advise you go and watch a few show...both open and champ. Also buy the dog world or our dogs news papers.
As for preparation you would need to speak to a rough collie exhibitor as all breeds have different methods of preperation.

Is your dog KC registered if you are based in the UK?

And have you made sure to have the registration transfered into your name?
Good point Goldmali. There are loads of dogs that I've sold that are still in my name !
yes he is kc registered, but i still have not transferred the ownership details to me so i guess that would be the first step, i am struggling to find details of any shows in my area (north west kent) and i should check if my local puppy class has details of local ring craft
thank you all

Dear susan
I live in dartford so maidstone is only 20 mins drive away, could you give me the details and i will definatly go down for a look, ive never even been to a show ( well we went to discover dogs back in november but our kids got fed up after an hour so we left earlier than expected) this time it will be grown ups only1
Kind regards
katrina

Hi Katrina,
Haven't had a schedule, but a friend of mine is judging the Roughs, so I'll email him ask what time he expects to be in the ring - would imagine they'll be first in at 10.00.
The venue is Maidstone Agricultural Market, Lockmeadow Road.
Marina
thanks marina,
it will be good to see other roughs in the ring just so i know what to expect, thank you so much i will let you know how i get on and if i still want to "take the plunge"
kind regards
katrina

Another nice show to come along to would be the London & Provincial Collie Club open show on 26th February at Langley Community Hall in Slough. The club shows are always nice, just the Collies (Roughs and a smaller number of Smooths) and a very relaxed atmosphere.
The entries haven't closed for that one yet, so I will PM you the email address for the Club Secretary and if you're feeling brave you could drop him an email, ask for a schedule and enter. You'd have an idea from the Maidstone show what's expected, and there are always people who can help you out at club shows. I'm on the committee there, so at least you'd have someone to ask for and have a chat before you get in the ring?
M.

Hi,
Are you anywhere near Maidstone? There are often shows on at Locks Meadow, and they tend to get a fairly good entry of Rough Collies down there.
It would be too late to enter, but there are Roughs scheduled there on 29th January - maybe you could go and have a look, try and talk to a few people? I'm not entered myself, or I'd meet you there for a chat.
M.
Dear val
Do you have rough collies?
Kind regards
Katrina
Hi katrina i haven't got no schedules but if you get one of the dog papers delivered either on line or to your local newsagents, which is (our dogs or dog world) they have lots of forthcoming shows you can enter, just by phoning. If you need any help regarding showing or any other questionns i'm sure you will find the answers on here.... and just maybe i will have the pleasure of meeting you one day at a show

good luck
Warm regards Susan
thanks susan, we get your dog magazine but that does not really cover showing much, i will try to get one of those you mentioned, thank you

Yes I have. So does Brihow Collies.

Your dog needs to stand with one leg on each corner (not in a German Shepherd stance) with his ears on top of his head, looking alert. You could start to train him to do this with tiny tit bits before you go to training classes.
val - do you know phillipa at mirifico?

No, I haven't seen Philippa or her dogs at any shows, but I've looked on her website at your dog's pedigree and he should move well! :)
The London & Provincial show that Marina mentioned would be a really good show for you to go and look at. Probably more Rough Collies than you have ever seen in one place, unless you've been to a Championship Show. Go and enjoy a doggy day out. :)
yes will definately go and im trying to make arrangements to get to the pastoral day on th 9th of march at crufts
