Hello,

Are there any CD''s living in Shropshire or anyone who knows the county really well?

Need some information about good areas to move to there, good areas for walking dogs, job availability etc.?

You can PM me if you prefer.

I visited Shropshire with work a few weeks ago and went to Church Stretton on my way home.  It was so amazing that I've vowed to go back and visit for a long weekend sometime soon and have used a link given in the holiday cottage thread to investigate places to stay.  It looks to be the ideal place to walk with dogs and I was overcome with an urge to just get out the car and walk!  (Snow prohibited that!).

Sorry I can't help you with recommendations for living but make sure you visit Church Stretton soon!

PS I was also able to buy a whole load of xmas presents in an amazing hardware shop there!

I don't know it that well, but I live roughly on the staffs/shrops border. Shrops is a beautiful county though and has a lovely town - Shrewsbury - and its good for dog walks. Job wiose - I think it depends what you are after, but BT has a big centre in Oswestry I think. And thats all I know really :)

BIL/SIL live in Oswestry :) BIL used to work for BT until he was made redundant 10 years ago. Always got the impression that there weren't too many jobs going there as the four boys have all moved out of the county and got jobs elsewhere :)

Hi,

I live on the Shropshire/Welsh Borders not far from a village called Bishops Castle. I married and moved here14 years ago from the city> Absoloutely LOVE it here on the Borders, my hounds can run free........ nobody winges or complains because thet are off the lead! Lot`s of fantastic walks too, you wouldn`t get me back to the big smoke

Also easy to get on to the motorway network from here.......

Hope I have been some help.

Thanks for this, I have only ever been close to Ludlow and that was many years ago, a one night stopover enroute to WKC!

Friends of mine live in Worcestershire and had said to me Shropshire was a nice county too, I would really like some feedback on 'nice' areas and 'not so nice' to live, good areas for walking dogs - mine are used to lots of forests & hills as I live in Scotland - I like getting 'lost' for a couple of hours.

We moved to Shropshire just over a year ago halfway between Shrewsbury and Oswestry and however much I miss our old town I dont think I would ever go back! - when ever people come to vist we can never get rid of them (one of which you will know!)
The locals (were in the middle of nowhere) are all very friendly and helpful.

In terms of dog walking there seems to be plenty of places to go - were lucky to have a coutry park a short drive away where you can get lost for hours if you choose or just do short walks. Slightly bit further we then have a small number of hills to walk in, or a walk along the river and then the welsh hills arent that far away. Ive not explored too much yet as our dogs arent really suitable for walking in strange areas but I am looking forward to exploring soon.

Job availablity I think can depend on what you want to do (if you do a search for the Shropshire Star that have a good jobs section on the internet to give you an idea of what there is). Although couldnt tell you that much about different areas to live in.

hope that helps

Christine, I believe that Tina used to live in Shropshire, so why not give her a call?

We live in Telford which is not far from shrewsbury, very developed but still with lots of dog friendly places for walks etc. There is plenty  of work in telford but rates of pay are not great. Shropshire as a whole is beautiful, so much to see and visit.
