Has anyone used these and what do you think?
OH doesn't want Breeze to go in the lounge as he keeps having to clean up the blood. Went home at lunchtime and she is in the dining room and there was spots everywhere. I don't want her to feel isoloated for the next 20 days or so?

If you are leaving them on when you are not there I think you can reasonably expect them to be removed by the time you come back :) I would just restrict her to washable areas like the kitchen, when you are home she could be allowed into the living area with a cover on the furniture or where ever she like to lie down but if she is very drippy and you can't keep control as she walks about I would be inclined to just take it in turns to keep her company in the cleanable area.

Is this her first season? If so don't forget she will being feeling very...different...everythings new to her. Also hopefully by the next season she will learn to keep herself clean. We only see drops of blood on the first day of season and after that the girls are keeping themselves clean and come on sofa's/lap same as normal and don't leave a mark, normally!
However I can't see the problem with using pants while you are with her. Some dogs are fine with them, others don't like them at all because they are "different"
When we are not there, she is in the dining room will her toys and water. I wouldn't leave them on while we are not around, they would be ripped to shreds in a matter of minutes with her. I thought about using them in the evening when we are in so she can stay with us.
This is her first proper season, she had a hoax one a couple of month back but only bled for a couple of days, this is gone on since new years eve now so this is the first one. My breeder said that some bitches are clean and others are not, her mum is apparently very dirty.
Personality wise, she is no different, still a nut case

My bitch has been wearing tights with 2/3rds of the legs cut off (tights, not dogs

) during her season. They were very easy to wash and dry and she didn't seem to mind wearing them at all. Certainly was a talking point over Christmas!

you could try a pair of childrens pants if she isnt keeping herself clean.
my bitch is in season at the moment she is bleeding but cleans up after herself I put old towels on the chairs so that she can come into the lounge with the family and not have to be excluded .

Hi Guys, interesting topic, i think i'll be doing what've said Roni, Nina get's blood everywhere she doesn't seem to be to clean

. I'm behind her with the mop constantly, ha ha hahaha
Thanks for the tips.
Warm regards Susan
I don't have any kids in the house, so maybe I will try in in a pair of my monthly ones
This is going to be an eventful evening, will let you know how she responds to wearing a pair of knickers LOL
A friend of mine managed to (after alot of searching!) get a couple of pairs of "pants" from america - i dont know if she uses them or not - there sort of plastic though - difficult to explain - she gets a noraml sanitary towel - cuts them to size and pops them in the place there is for them - problem solved

i use boxer shorts as they have a hole for the tail. mine looks so funny cos she has to have a knot tied in them to keep them up

I got hygiene pants and pads for my Cav bitch from Jollyes, luckily she is tricolour and they are black, so didn't look too stupid. I just used them for an hour or two in the evenings so she could sit on the sofa with us. I always have covers on the sofa anyway. I put dog bed mats anywhere she tends to sit or lie so that they could be washed, and we managed to get away with only a few spots on the carpet, most of which I scrubbed off asap before the OH could see them. Squeamish things, men, aren't they!! :-D
Hi Sarah how's she getting on with the knickers?
Warm regards Susan
Hi ya
She was fine in them for about 10 mins and then they started to fall around her ankles. It was very funny but we had to take them off her.
I have to take sam to the vet tonight as he is being sick every day, not eating or drinking very much and is very grumpy (which may be a reason he is not taking any interest in her) so hopefully, I should be able to get her a pair of proper pants for her.

This is an interesting topic! I'll bear the advice in mind for when our little girl has her first season

We've never experienced a bitch in season so it will be, erm.......... interesting! We can live in hope that she's quite clean but as she doesn't seem to show much interest in even so much as licking her bum I doubt it somehow

Peewee, our youngest bitch had the most messy first season you could imagin (with white coat!) however by the 2nd season she was clean, she's in season ATM and as clean as anything, no marks to be found! So even if the first seasons bad, the 2nd may be fine

A lot of people say the first is the worst. My puppy was pretty clean, and the combination of her being clean, the silly knickers, and me following her around scrubbing the carpet, meant that my OH was still saying 'are you sure she's in season' right up to day 14 when the 2 boys started howling!! :-D

I have been very lucky with both my girls not a mark on a.....
beige carpet just the odd spot on the kitchen floor if they have been lying down for a while of course there is a lot of licking going on with the older girl keeping the puppy clean too Ahhh.... they have been a bit grumpy with each other which I was a little concerned about ...that has thankfully passed ....so didnt have to revert to knickers this time anyway!!

ive heard the hygene pants can cause infection i have never used them because someone told me this. I am lucky though i have an extremely clean girl who cleans herself regularly and when she does drop blood on the floor she licks it up. My only complaint is she insist on sleeping on my bed so when she is in heat i have to confine her to the end of the bed where i cover it in old towels for her to sleep on
Hi Susan
Sam is on medication again for another week and then we have to go back if there is no change for blood tests. He may have a virus which the vet said was uncommon in a 12 year old dog, or he may have stomach problems, so he is being fed chicken, scrambled eggs or rice. He was sick again this morning, so lets hope these pills work. Because there is a threat of a virus, may not turn out to be this, I am keeping him away from Breeze to be safe, so while hubby is downstairs with her, I am upstairs with him. All I know that the poor little mite is suffering and we don't know why.
On the way to the vet I popped in to the pet shop to get her some hygene pants, they looked really funny and am not sure that they work on a dog that has no tail. She was okay with them, but we took them off her when we went to bed as she is in the dining room that has a wood floor so its easy to clean, I have also left them off while we are not in the house.
I am not going to get her spayed until after the next one as she needs longer to mature, but at least next time I know what to expect.
We had a little play in the garden this morning as I won't take her out to the park, Sam didn't wamt to go out at all so I had to trick him out in the garden before she went out so he could do what he had to, he then ran upstairs and jumped on our bed. I left him the TV on, he likes BBC1. Breeze is left Radio 2 on downstairs.
