Sounds like you have an easy bitch! Stay calm and see that the afterbirths come out with each puppy.

one puppy isnt drinking milk what should i do
By Val

Nothing at the moment. Pups are fine for a few hours if necessary. Just make sure that it's warm and near the milk bar if it wants to drink. Some take longer than other to recover from the trauma of birth.

I'm in and out today. If I'm not here, there are others who can help. If you are not happy at anytime, or if your girl looks distressed - call your Vet!

number 7 now how do i know when she is finished

Congratulations and well done. :)
Hi nadia, usually when a bitch has finished, she appears more settled and settles down with her new family. Has she delivered all the afterbirths? Can be difficult keeping track when it's all happening quite quickly.
What is the consensus (sp?) of opinion on having the bitch and pups checked (pups for cleft palate, etc) by a vet soon after birth, and the use of oxytocin? Haven't had a litter myself since 2002.
Good luck

so sorry this is my first litter didnt understand your question. all pups ding well all feedind mum resting
The oxytocin is in case not everything has been cleared away but this isn't something that's done as a rule and something that I've never had done to any of my bitches. The only time I've ever had it is when a bitch has stopped giving birth when I've known that pups were still inside.
I have never done this to be truthful, but as I've never had any with cleft palates and I suppose because I know what to look out for re. afterbirths etc.
But maybe for first timers who may not be quite sure and missed a few things in all the madness it may be a good idea to have a vet check everything out.

I wouldn't see the vet expecially to have oxytocin except if I thought a placenta had been retained, but if I was required to see them anyway I would have it because it does seem to reduce the risk of infection by expelling as much of lining as quickly as possible. I understand it is generally given after human deliveries, As far as vet checking I don't bother unless I am concerned but I can understand some may wish to do that for reassurance and of course you do get a bit more that just a check for cleft palate, hearts and lungs will be listened to perhaps spotting early problems from inhalation that might have gone unnoticed for a bit. In balance I don't think it is worth the risk of taking them anywhere or even having a well scrubbed vet coming round :) unless you feel there is a problem but as I say they are all theorectical risk so any choice is reasonable.

she is panting again how many pups is the norm on the scan the vet said 6 to 8

The average number will vary by breed, which you cannot mention due to the TOS but it's not relevant because what ever the normal is you may not have it!
Give the pup a good rub, could just be a bit tired after being born. Get a towel and give it a rub around the chest area and on it's back.

if it dosnt suckle shall i feed with siringe and what milk shall i use many thanks

First thing you need to do is check its mouth for cleft palate, as if it does have one it won't be able to take milk. Then like others say leave it for a few hours before interfering as it may well start suckling. Make sure its warm!
Gosh thi sis so exciting..better than the tele!

hope its going well
Congratulations hope all is well with the pups and mum.
Warm regards Susan
