Hi my girl is now 2 days late and lasr night her temp was 99, then i took it again before bed and shw was 99.9 then this morning she is at 99.2 do you think she is getting any nearer?:rolleyes:

I wouldn't say so.  I normally find the temperature falls to 98'ish then we see puppies within 24 hours.  Try to keep relaxed, am sure you don't have much longer to wait now :)

I saw your post title "results" and thought your pups must have arrived at last!  Any developments yet?  Wondered if you had had her scanned and if so how many pups were there.  One of mine once had a single pup and that was the only time that a bitch of mine has not had very full mammaries.  She did have the pup naturally but the vet did say that sometimes a bitch with a single pup doesn't have enough hormone to get labour started.

i am getting worried now she was due on thusrday from her first mating and due yesterday from her second mating

I would guess that she "took" to her second mating and I bet that she has her pups tonight or tomorrow for you, bearing in mind the temperature drop.  Don't panic.  I assume that she's fine and that you can see the pups moving?  How is the milk bar?  What breed is she?  I'm new to the forum - don't know if you're allowed to say.  Best of luck - this is a stressful time for you.  At this point, I just want the whelping to be over and mum and babies safe, I know what you are going through!

Just a thought - she has got someone quiet to whelp hasn't she?  I assume that you have got a whelping box for her in a quiet room that she has got used to?  And that you haven't got a houseful of visitors?  Bitches can hold on if they are not happy with the conditions.

If your bitch is comfortable, then I wouldn't be worried unless her temperature rose to 101 or so.  That's the time that I would be calling for assistance.

she has a whelping box and loves it, there is only my partner myself and my son in the house, so not too noisey.
she is happy in herself she was even trying to play this afternoon but couldn't because she is too fat.

Ive only just done it and I'm worried for you too.  My girls temp had gone down and was showing other signs, then it went back up again.  She was really struggling with a large pup coming feet first.  The second came shoulder on.  A rise in temp is not a good thing.

She didn't say there was a rise in temp though, it had dropped from yesterday.

I get gripped by these whelping threads but they are such a tense time.  Is this what it's like when you are expecting birth of grandchildren? :D

Actually the temp usually goes down a bit, then has a sharp rise, THEN drops right down. :) So the rise is as much of a sign as the drop. http://www.debbiejensen.com/temp_chart.html

not according to my vet who had to help me deliver them.  Her temp stayed up and never did a second drop.  The key is to get help if you think something is amiss.  Really it is just a gut feeling.

PS my vet works in a large country practice and delivers all sorts of baby animals which is a blessing for us.

But of course you are right, no sleep for 4 nights has made me a hasty reader no mention of temperature rise.  But sadly these things are not always text book and if you look at a couple of other breeding sites you will see they have differing views.  I am only glad I went with instinct and only one little pup died. 

Are these puppies born yet do we know?

Not according to Sharon Vanderlip who is a DVM as well as a respected Rough Collie breeder. 
I have lent her book to a friend and so can't quote her for you.  My experience is very different to the chart printed on your site.  Normal dog temperature is about 101.5 - sorry I still talk in old money!  For a week before whelping, it's 100.5.  It then drops, usually rising by .1 or .2 in the evening compared to the morning, until it goes under 99, a sign that whelping is imminent.  Dr Vanderlip says that if it goes up to anything like normal after dropping to 99, that's the time that the bitch needs to deliver.  I've been a temperature taker for over 20 years and have never had a temperature rise before whelping in any of my bitches.

Hi Claudia, try not to worry, i know its easier said than done but Daisys pups are nearly 5 weeks old now and they were born 65 days from the last mating, with no problems. As long is she is not showing any signs of distress and no unusual discharge im sure she will be fine.

If you send a PM it should turn up in Claudia's inbox on her email.  My guess would be that she is very busy at the mo, or trying to sleep, and hasn't had time to respond.
