Our 7 month sheltie little girl has had quite loose stools today and we aren't entirely sure why   She hasn't eaten anything she 'shouldn't have' but yesterday afternoon she had quite a shock - well, her and my Dad!  It was the first time my Dad had walked her by himself aswell.  She got spooked by 2 dogs in their driveways (both kennelled I might add and are always outside on their own :( ).  She got under my Dad's feet tripping him up.  He ended up flaked out full length in the middle of the road!  As he fell he let go of her lead and she bolted   Some woman in a 4x4 stopped and was shouting at my Dad "Don't run after it!" but she quite obviously didn't know that we'd only had her a week, she doesn't have a good recall not to mention shelties when spooked do leg it and don't come back!!!  There were a couple of other people on that street walking their dogs who did absolutely nothing - not even ask my Dad if he was ok!  My Dad was doing his best to keep up with her bless him (he's in his 50's and has a bad back!) but luckily she found her way home - she ended up sat on next doors doorstep cos our gates were closed bless her little cottons *phew*  She calmed down pretty quickly but my Dad is still pretty shaken bless him.  Could this be why she's been quite loose today poor luv?

On the plus side she's been thoroughly enjoying 'chomping' at the cars on my son's Asda's-Finest-Scalextric-esque racing track haha  :)

Hi peewee
Stress certainly can loosen bowels.

If it continues tomorrow then would you suggest we do something like 'starve' her for a day?  Its not loose loose but certainly not firm.  There was some mucus-esque-stuff in it too *yuk*  But hopefully she'll be back to normal tomorrow cos I'm sure that despite her 'brave' exterior the fireworks from 11pm-2am won't have helped things either.

Thanks :)

Im sure its the stress but if you are concerned tomorrow then starve her for 24 hrs and then introduce something like thoroughly cooked rice and chicken in small amounts - about a tablespoon every few hours. Then introduce her normal food and see how she goes. If she seems poorly with it, it might be worth a trip to the vet.
Im sure she will be fine - i just hope your Dad is too (you could try feeding him chicken and rice too:eek:)!

Thanks for the advice :)  She's actually pretty ok now - she always has loose-ish stools hence my post in the feeding topic about recommended dry foods but this was different so thats why I posted.  My Dad's perking up slowly bless him and has eaten all his tea so he's being a good boy ;) haha
