Topic Dog Boards / Health / removing a lymph node.....scared

Did anyones dog ever need to have their lymph node removed? My boxer Dexter has cancer in his lymph node and has been on chemotherapy for the last 4 months. Everything was going great untill last week when his lymph node grew to the size of a baseball in a just a few days. He is going to the specialist on tuesday to have his lymph node removed and to change his chemo treatment. Dexter has been through so much already, that if the end is approaching, I would hate to put him through another operation. Just wondering what your experience was like, how painful it was for the dog, and what was the outcome. Thanks

hi Dexter Mom

I am very sorry to hear of the latest thing to happen to dexter .... i have been watching your posts as my boxer also has lymphomia but she seems to be luckier than Dexter has been ... she has had the condition for over a year now and still seems to responding well to chemo but her lymph nodes do seem to come up at times but they go down again .... my vet seems to think it could be due to a mild infection but who knows ..... i hope that Dexter manages to overcome this and responds well to the new chemo regime ...... sorry i cant be of any help regarding the lose of a lymph node but i'm sure somebody on here will be of more help.
Will be thinking of you and dexter i do understand how you must be feeling

Keepers, I am very glad to hear that your boxer is doing well. Just curious if you know what chemo medication your boxer is on and the doses? For now, Dexter is is taking 30mg of Prednisone(pills) every day, every 3rd week he takes 270mg of Cyclophosphamide(pills) over a 4 day period, and 2.8mg of Vinblanstine(IV) once every 3 weeks. We leave for the specialist tomorrow afternoon and I am hoping to be back home by thursday, I will keep you posted on how dexter does at the specialist. Fingers crossed.......Hope you are having a happy new year. Thanks
