Title says it all really. toilet trianed perfectly as a pup and we tried getting her to go to the toilet in 1 place, it worked to some degree until we decided to change the garden about! now she goes everywhere which is a pain when it comes to clearing it up!!! apart from taking her out again evrytime, what can i do to help her go in one place?

Will be watching this one with interest. Never trained mine to go in one place which didn't bother me until the grass started getting a bit too long to clear up easily. Then when OH gave our horrible Llandi (sp?) trees a good haircut and was disposing of the huge pile of cuttings gradually week by week I saw her crouching on top of the pile

I don't know whether dogs actually like going in one place! Only if I've missed a poo in the everlasting clean-ups (not helped by garden being covered in leaves from the blasted vine) Nipper tippytoes around it with an expression like an outraged maiden aunt.
'...until the grass started getting a bit too long to clear up easily...'
You mean you have
grass in your garden?
We only have
mud in ours!!!

Yes we have grass, she only goes on the grass to poo. She runs around the lawn and has made her own pathways which are muddy. She does tend to wee in the same area though so there is no grass there. Strange aren't they?
If you manage this i would really like to know how, as my dog dots his poo all over the back garden, he normally goes on his walk but if we have been later than normal he will go in the garden and as the weather has been bad the garden is like a mine field

When i evetually get out there is will be a nightmare to clear up. I wish i was one of those people who keep up with poo picking but i put it off and off, and also my lovely doggy can never do his business all at the ame time he does four pile each time he goes.

yep mines the same!! she walks while she poo's so its everywhere!! and like you i put cleaning it up off!! thats y am pretty desperate to get her to go in one place!!!

There is no real shortcut, and you may only be able to get her to use an area as opposed to a specific spot.
You would have to take ther to the spot on lead and praise lavishly when she performed, a lot of work! Might just be easier to partition your Garden so that the are she can go in is reduced and makes clean up easier.
This is what I did, primarily so that when the kids had friends round they didn't tread in poo.

thanks brainless. i think i will try taking her out again! we did try fencing off an area of the garden but she jumps the fence!!! Am i correct in thinking that dogs like grass best to do their thing?! at the moment she has grass, but was considering a gravel patch for her, but not sure if she would still rather use the grass!

If she is used to grass she may refuse a different substrate. How high was the fence. I ahve found foru feet enough to dissuade them from leaving their designated area.

i think its 3 foot, but with spikes on!!! even if we have the gate open she jumps the fence!!! i really need to start agility with her!!! we are hopefully moving house soon, so i wonder if it would be best to leave her as she is for now and try a new strategy in our new house, rather than try and change things now, then again in a new house!

our dogs were used to peeing and pooing on grass, but then it got ruined and so we put up these expandable fences (my mum is fussy so didn't want a permanent fence) around the patio in our garden and then just left them to it. if they didn't go they didn't go and they eventually learned that this is where they have so they had to deal with it. they are do very happy with it and it is so much easier to clean up

I built my first dog a dog loo, ie a sandbox and he was 6 months old when I got him and the garden was fab I did not want a dog that cocked its leg up everything vertical or pooped everywhere, it took me one day to train him to pee there. However this did not stop him peeinig up everything vertical outside the garden ! :D
Also, he NEVER pooped in the garden in 8 years EXCEPT one day when he was really ill.
I have had two dogs that would never poop in the garden, which has both its up and down sides............
