Not much sleep last night as our labx kept vomiting. She'd eaten something disgusting ( again ) and she's fine today but the bedroom carpet has a couple of horrible stains on it Any one got any good ideas for removing them?

Buy a nice rug (or 2) and place over the stains?? :D :D :D
Sorry, I don't have much carpet in my house and cleaning is certainly not my forte  :D Hopefully there will be a domestic goddess along soon to offer some more practical assistance :)

biological powder and a good scrub ...is it yellowy??
I bought the vax upright carpet cleaner for these kind of instances it works a treat.

Just finished cleaning it, Hurrah! It was a yuchy brownish colour. Found a bottle of "Vanish" stain remover at the back of the cupboard. Really worked well only thing now of course rest of carpet looks like it could use a good shampoo. Is the vax cleaner very expensive? It costs a lot when we get the carpet cleaners in, have often thought it would be good to have an efficient carpet shampoo machine. Oh the joys of pets, and the glamorous topics they lead us to, lol.

A half way house is to hire a carpet cleaning machine and do it yourself. I have had carpet cleaning machines in the past and found the "domestic" type ones are not a patch on the "industrial" type which are very pricey so probably not worth forking out for if you don't own Highgrove :)

The best cleaner I have found is a steam cleaner! They are brilliant, will clean almost anything, no detergents or anything and the place just smells so fresh afterwards. Really surprising when all it is is steam!

Ive got a steam cleaner and hate it. Much prefer the Vax upright which my son and I halved for, but guess who uses it more, ME !!!. Whilst on the subject of cleaning carpets, I am thinking of taking my hall carpet up and putting down lino that either lookes like laminate or looks like the large floor tiles anyone else done this, dont want laminate as I slip on it, my daughter has it and I just dont like it.

I recently pulled up hall and cloackroom carpets which I hated and replaced them with floor tiles which look great and are so easy to clean. Although this was more expensive than lino I think it was well worth it. Depending on the shape of your hall it might work out very expensive to put lino down as you pay by the width it comes in (e.g. 3 or 4metres) and lino doesn't join well so if you have one wider bit you have to pay for lino the width of the widest part so the is loads of wastage.
What do you all have on your stairs? i'm on a mission to eventually get rid of carpets in all high traffic areas and think the stairs are next but have no idea what to put down.

My mother has got "wood" lino right through her house. She chose not to have wood precisely because of potential slippage plus she's got two large dogs that she didn't want sliding around and potentially hurting themselves. Her lino is so good you honestly wouldn't know it wasn't the real thing and I don't think it was ruinously expensive either.
I'm also on a mission to replace carpets when the house is rebuilt in the Spring and I'm trying to decide what sort of flooring would be best in a fairly large L-shaped kitchen, utility room and downstairs loo plus the middle sitting room that leads off the kitchen. As for stairs, I've got iffy balance due to a dodgy ankle so although I'd prefer no carpet at all I suspect I'll end up with sanding down the wood on the new staircase and having a small strip of carpet up the middle of them.

I have the new vax upright got it in B&Q it was on offer cost me£65.00 but I think its in argos for about £150 so it was a bargain.
I must say I am impressed with its cleaning abilities its great for doggy sick marks or pee stains .

I've used the Vax for years and it isn't a patch on the steam cleaner. It took me two seconds at my parents house to clean the wee stains where my pup had weed on their carpet :d
