This is my second time breeding dogs. The first time I had the bitch and everything went perfectly. This time I have the stud and we're having "alignment" trouble. The bitch is short and the stud is tall. We've been trying to help them line-up and having a hell of a time! Does anyone have any suggestions? (Put her on stilts?!?!? ;) )

My dogs are legit.

If they are both expereinced then placing the bitch on a platform might help, but in my experience a dog should be able to manage a small bitch of his breed, even if he is on the top size.

My bitch of 19inches had no trouble being mated by a 21 1/2 inch male.

Maybe the bitch is not hot to trot yet, and he can't be bothered to make the extra effort until she is :rolleyes:

A male I bred who is a good size had a small bitch as his first with no problems and both were maidens,(though he had tried to mate a difficult bitch previously).

If both are within the standard height range there shouldn't be any trouble if the bitch is really ready. However if the height difference is very great I'd question the wisdom of mating two animals of such disparate size because of the increased likelihood of the bitch having problems whelping oversized pups.

If the dog is smaller or the bitchis smaller put something like a cushion or something to boost the smallest dog up so they are closer to the height of the other dog!  I have no problems mating two dogs with nearly 3" height difference previously, the dog was smaller than the bitch, he just needed a little extra help :d
