Hi Sheryl,
According to breed standard suggested weights at
Petsmart West Highland White Terrier Male: 12-14 lbs Female:11-13 lbs
Westi Pet Care Forum also gives weight guide.
But it does all depend on your dog's size. Should be proportionate. I know with my Doxie/Westi mix, when she was seriously overweight at 21/22 pounds, I could still feel her ribs on her ribcage rather easily through her skin--unlike common advice to tell about being overweight with most dogs.
She put all of the weight on her chest/neck area between her front legs and also her hip area to look very square. (lost her nipped in waist --well, for her, it's nipped in :D).
this was a long while ago when I had troubles with feeding another elderly dog...she now stays btwn 15-16 pounds and is rather sleek
.
hope this helps,

Hi ,
Toodles is bang on I think with where they put on the weight. Around the neck, front etc..Squarish..
My puppy ( Male) is 5.5 months and still chubby I am panicking LOL my wee bitch nearly 12 months is the opposite a picking thing..

Hi Sheryl,
I hang my head in shame not being able to 100% tell you of the top of my head and I dont' have a book here but I am 99% sure it is between 15-22 lbs but I believe we aim for the middle. They shoulr be approx 11 inches in height.
So if you dog is smaller or larger there will be slight weight variation.
Hope this helps

thank you to those who replied to my question, going by what you have said i dont think my bitch is overweight, but shes possible just big, she stands at 12 inches high, and weighs in at 20bls, she hasnt a stocky neck, in fact her neck is quite slim, she is now 14 months old, at what age do westies stop growing, as iv been told different things, some one told me she will carry on growing until she is two, but i know this is not correct, is she still classed as a puppy at i4 months, sorry to seem so ignerant but im still learning as you can see, thankyou all. sheryl

I would have thought your Westie was now full grown and an adult. According to the breed standard she is within the weight range and if her height is correct she s unlikely to be overweight as she is taller than the "ideal" by an inch.
She is unlikely to grow any more but will mature. The changes are very subtle, it's like looking at a baby - one day its a baby the next it's a todller and you've missed what happened in between is it is so subtle.
