Gail, I personally wouldn't give her the second vaccination but I do have concerns about vaccination safety anyway.  If the vaccine was Intervet Nobivac, they say "a single injection should establish active immunity to canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis and disease caused by canine parvovirus infection in dogs of 10 weeks of age or older."  I think the only illnesses not fully covered by just having one vaccination at that age would be leptospirosis and parainfluenza.  I understand, however, that the lepto vaccine is the one that most commonly causes adverse reactions.  What does your vet say?  I hope he/she accepted it as an adverse reaction to vaccination - many don't seem to and therefore don't report it.

My vet has been extremely helpful.....and the vaccine company denie responsibility but have been on the phone most days to my vet to see how she is recovering!!!!!The vaccine company has suggested we put her on piriton a few days before she possibly has her 2nd vaccination( if we go ahead)They were due 2nd vacc today but have decided to wait til wednesday once Christmas is over, just incase! The vaccination they have had is the smaller variety of vaccine( just lepto I think?) as my vets like to take puppies through their course of injections as gently as possible.Hope that makes sense.......their records are in the car for next time so I can`t just check. Gail :) :) :)

If a dogs had a reaction to a vaccine the chances are very high they`ll have another one to any vaccine they receive afterwards. Vaccines should only be given to healthy animals & as your pup is unwell I don`t see how another vax can be given, your vet & the manu`s know this

The usual first puppy vax are distemper & parvo not lepto, although some also contain lepto as well, maybe check & see what they`ve had. The vax are`nt *smaller* just either 1, 2 3 or more different viruses.

It`s a *suspected* adverse reaction, nothing has to be proved to report one & you can even do it yourself if you want to & your vet won`t.

Sorry about your pup tho, hope he gets better soon, try & get a firm diagnosis, if it was me I`d take him to a homeopathic vet.

Good luck :)

After much thought and sleepless nights, I gave my puppy her 2nd vaccination along with her brother and sister.I followed the recommendation of the manufactures and put her on piriton. She didn`t have a temperature and seemed in fine health so we went ahead, it wasn`t an easy decision to make!My vet also kept her in for the morning just incase. So far she is fine, she was vaccinated yesterday so will be glad when the weekend is here because then she should be `out the woods` so to speak!!!!!!!!!!Gail :) :) :)

Gail the vaccine company have been involved, by your vet I presume?  That company are now legally obliged to make a suspected adverse reaction report themselves, whether or not they deny it. Once they have been made aware a suspected reaction has occurred they must report it :)

You may or not may be convinced by homoepathy however if you wish to mitigate possible vaccine reaction I would recommend that you give a dose of Thuja 30c on the day after the vaccination and for 3 - 5 days after.  It certainly cannot do any harm.............
