As you may have read from another of my posts, I need help on behalf of my whole family. Currrently our 6 bedroomed house smells like an ashtray, and I have just recently noticed because of my 12 year old daughter.  Last week she confessed that she had began smoking. I knew I couldnt shout at her because just like her brothers and sisters, 6 of them in total, she smoked. I think its because for so long she has seen all her brothers and sisters and me and the OH smoking and she thinks this is a good thing.
Please could anyone offer any advice, we, as a family, know we need to do something.
Thanks Claire x

P.S as from new years I am banning them from a ciggie inside the house.

it hard to give up if other people in the hose smoke. i want to give up but i know tubby is not going to stop so its going to be hard for me when he has a fag and i have to sit and watch. my kids are too young to smoke so i want to stop before they get old enough cos if i smoke then i cant shout at them for doing it

Perhaps it was meant for the other post - Riona/Lola :)

As for stopping for the whole family I think the best thing to do is to not put them under pressure to stop smoking - concentrate on yourself first, you now have a very good incentive to stop and that is to show strength/discipline and guidance for your OH and children.

Everytime you would normally buy a packet of ciggies pop the money in a glass jar, you will be able to see your savings adding up - have goals setup on the jar, like new dress, meal out, trip to London etc (things that would interest you and that you would like) this will help you to succeed and in time you will be able to offer the support your family needs when they come to you for help to stop themselves.

I'm confused, what is it you are all hinting at? It seems to be distressing poor Jollyjem whatever it is, not to mention taking Claire's post off track.

Claire i am all with you on the anti smoking campaigne, wll done for taking action and also for being so calm in dealing with your daughter.

Hi Claire - and Miss Martha (sorry Wiggymonster ;) )

So you, and all your six children all smoke? How on earth can you afford it?   What about the health of your 3 dogs - and the sharpei puppies bred by your husband? - do you not think that their health might be impaired?  And I certainly hope that you keep everyone who smokes away from your 3 horses
- By Daisy [gb] Date 28.12.05 22:25 UTC
Sorry, Margot - it's five dogs and two horses  ;)

Lokis Mum can I just ask why you refered to me as Miss Martha? Who is she? I am not really sure what is going on around here, I feel as though I've come in halfway through a private conversation and everyone else is aware of the 'in' joke but me. I rather get the impression you have all been so inundated with these WUMs that you are treating everyone with extreme suspicion and caution. This is understandable to a degree but you are, unintentionally I am sure, being rather hostile to the more geniune newbies on the forum.

I myself do not have six children, just one daughter, a grand daughter, a husband and Ginger, my Papillion. 'Wiggymonster' refers to my next puppy, another Papillion, due to be collected from the breeders a week on Saturday. He has yet to be named, hence his nickname which seems to suit him very well at the moment. :-)

I am new so I am not sure what your all on about.

My Middle Daughter began smoking at 14 but twelve is early. It could posibly damage her growth. I would personally keep on at her, persuading her to choose the right option. I have 6 kids myself and they all smoke! Luckily only 4 of them live here, they are aged, 15-15 ( BoyTwins :O) 14Daughter 16Daughter I found it hard to come to terms with but I fineally acepted her choice in the end.

I think you have done well to recognise that your family needs rules, one of being, smoking out side the house. When I first lay down this rule I found my kids having one out the window  but now they respect my wishes, well being in MY house, they should.
Also, I have to buy a heap of different cigarettes at the shop (They give me their poket money and from jobs) But I would 100% rather that than them having to ask friends or other adults round by our shop.

I know how you feel, ive been through this all before.

Makes me feel totally inadequate only having three children, two dogs and no horses - but I do have a cat :D
- By HayzeyDogs [gb] Date 28.12.05 22:32 UTC
I smoke in the house and so does the other half but if i give up he definately wont be allowed to smoke in the house. i dont have 6 kids for anyone whos intrested only the one here and he definately wont be smoking hes only 2
- By Kate B [gb] Date 31.12.05 21:11 UTC
Got bad news for you, Hazeydogs.....

With 2 who are smoking in a house with a 2 year old, the 2 year old is ALREADY SMOKING!

Give the child a chance and give up smoking in the house, and in front of him!
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 28.12.05 22:30 UTC
I have never, ever heard anything so irresponsible as to actually BUY cigarettes for your children - do you not watch television?  Or even read The Sun?  SMOKING KILLS.

Why not save up for a time and just by them a 12-bore shotgun?   Or buy them some heroin?

I am just soo angry.   Have you watched anyone die of lung disease?   Or are your children immortal?

I have One GSD and one cat. No horses though I would absolutley love one !!

Well Margot, to be honest like I said, I would rather buy them then someone else. If I didnt buy them someone else would anyway....
Sorry if my family-life scares you,

I have to agree with u margot there is no way if my son ever started smoking when he was older that i would go out and buy his fags for him id buy patches to help him stop but definately make it easier for him to smoke i might do it myself but i dont smoke near my son as its not fair to damage his health aswel and i didnt smoke while carrying him either.
- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 28.12.05 22:44 UTC

One of my girls smokes.  I told her how surprised I was because she always seems such a control freak and yet here she is relinquishing control to stinking, health damaging fags.

No way would I buy them for her and I warned her if I found them in the house I would chuck them down the toilet.  As for spending pocket money on them, she didn't get the chance.  Not for one minute was I going to give my hard earned cash to her to damage her health.  She had to work to buy them.  I know that she didn't smoke as much when she didn't have money so why give them the money to buy them? That is really confusing to me.  As for other people buying them for the kids, if I heard that was happening I would put the word about that I would report anyone buying fags for my kids and it is disrespectful to the parents, damaging to the child and against the law.

- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 29.12.05 11:34 UTC
You forgot the two or three horses:rolleyes:

I was just so mad at this thread last night - to think that someone could even pretend to be as crass.stupid/irresponsible as to actually BUY the cigarettes for their pretend kids ...... words fail me
- By polly_45 [gb] Date 29.12.05 11:53 UTC
Well i only live in a modest three bedroom house.with my three modest boxers:eek:there is room for a puppy though...still working on that incentive lol...one son who from a early age used to hide my cigarrettes to stop me from smoking them...he still hates it with a passion....he wont even let me in his car if i have just had a cigarette says i stink...:rolleyes:But if he had ever started smoking i am afraid i would never of bought them for him..nor contributed to them.....
- By roz [gb] Date 29.12.05 11:36 UTC
And the whole lot of them controlled by electric collars? Nah...couldn't possibly be a WUM eh?
